So... this is just a kind of shot in the dark 'just for fun' thread. I thought it would be interesting to hear the different opinions on where the ANH vader ended up.

me? geographicaly - I'd say somewhere in California. Probably L.A.
demographicly - I'd say it's now in the hands of someone who knows exactly what it is and where it came from.

* the one 'wildcard' issue i have about the Vader lid being in some secretive private hands is that...if noone knows you have it - and by extension it is considered lost / destroyed / non-existant - then it has no 'market value'.*

I do have a backup theory that it is sitting in George Lucas's bank vault.

It's hidden in a Raiders of the Lost Ark-type warehouse somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

I've heard in private hands, location unknown, but unless George Lucas is a really really huge weenie in the first degree..........it sits under glass on his nightstand. He should offer half his worth to get that back. THE HOLY GRAIL of Star Wars Collectors worldwide!!!!! LOL

I am chasing a rumour from a reliable source that a helmet is in London somewhere.....

I think it is more fun to speculate than it would be to find the real thing :lol

The more I get into original rpops, the more I realise the chase is the majority of the fun, much like women :lol

You're probably right Pantheragem, I spoke to a guy that worked on ANH and he said they were wearing the Cantina masks home from work and then throwing them in the rubbish. They thought the film was a complete joke at the time! :lol

You've beaten me to that comment! :lol

I'm not sure about the lost/destroyed theory, yep a real possibility after all these years but I'm more inclined to believe that it's either in Lucas or Lucasfilm's possession, if not then in private hands. I also think whoever has it knows exactly what it is.

Hey, does anyone know more about the story of the sting operation set up to steal the suit from Kermit Eller? Apparently some guys descovered the suit was to be collected from him and sent back to LFL so they turned up the day before posing as the delivery company and walked off with it! d'oh! ... (did that really happen?)

If I remember correctly, the costume has been already changed at that time to an ESB version.

Here are my theories:

The original suit is either part of a private collection (possibly in Las Vegas), or stored somewhere at Lucasfilm, or destroyed. Another possibility is that it was restored or reworked and was used in ESB again or it went on tour until it was not usable anymore.

Well, the original suit was personally turned in to LFL by Eller in 1980, that is for sure. No shipping heist for that one. But some components of the original suit were still used with the ESB suit he got as a replacement. Apparently it was not a complete ESB suit. LFL's original plans were to donate the original Vader suit to the Smithsonian, according to my sources.
