My armour for my esb vader will be here tomorrow and I am really anxious to get paint on it. So I really need a guide on painting it as I am unsure how to proceed.
My main questions are do I paint it all black first then when the coats of black have eventually cured , do I then mask off and paint the gunmetal over the black? If I do this then will I have to remove and reapply the masking tape for each coat of gunmetal? Allso should I wetsand the entire surface with 2000 grit between each coat or just on the dust bumps and clearcoat? Your help as allways is much apriciated.
Allso this will give me some good practice for when I paint my esb mask!! :)

Paint the black first. If you plan to clear coat later you might as well just spray with flat black as it'll give better adhesion for the gunmetal and will less likely peel off with the masking tape. However, if you'd rather spray with gloss, then let that cure longer.

Let that cure.

Then mask off all the black areas you don't want painted gunmetal and spray that on in light coats. Let that cure until almost dry, but still sticky, and remove the masking tape to prevent sharp raised masking tape lines between the two colors.

Let that cure.

Personally I wouldn't sand. Apply clearcoat or sealant.

Let that cure.

C.

yes, let it cure. I waited a week between applying the different colour. It's not easy as I wanted to see the result as fast as possible but better safe than sorry...and if you paint outside, wait until it's dry and sunny. If it's too humid it'll give you orange peel etc...
