I have to say that when the ANH Vader first appeared I thought and made a comment that it's probably owned by some rich person who will never show it and let people enjoy it. I couldn't be more wrong and am sorry to the collector for being a bit harsh. It's so exciting that they are showing so much of it and letting us all enjoy it. These are the sort of collectors we need and I'm happy to be buying his books. Great days.

By the way are the stormtrooper shots just as good?

Those new images of the original ANH facepate answer many open questions...dimensional C-scar, screw position on tabs, crack on right side, slot position for straps etc.

Thanks Patrice and Arnaud for this great book - truly an amazing STW collection.

Defintive some really nice new pictures to study.

Btw.
Does this mean that he not only owned the original screen used AnH mask, he also has the original plaster cast in his collection, too?

I showed Brian Muir images of the plaster cast on my iPad at Celebration Europe, where we met in person. He said he did not create, nor did he work on it. So it is still a bit of a mystery what it really is and where it came from.

After studying the plaster cast in person at Grunbergs collection, I can confirm that it looks very old and "production made" - especially when compared to the screen used ANH faceplate, which was sitting right next to it in the same shelf.

Quote brackets fixed.

Indeed, the lenses appear to be greyish to me in the those photos, but certainly not reflecting amber color. However, so many shots on screen and in production photos reflect amber color. I wonder if the original amber lenses were swapped out or lost at some point during its use for promo and molding?

Or even discoloration?

So was the original screen used helmet repainted after the filming of Star Wars?

Pic removed by request of Arnaud Grunberg

Looks to be so, and also cleaned up a bit when compared to this photo...

Yes, the helmet was cleaned up somewhere between the end of production and the ceremony at Grauman's Chinese theater where Vader, R2-D2, and C-3PO, had their footprints immortalized in cement. The repaint is also seen very clearly in the "Chronicles" photo session.

As far as lens color in the book is concerned, I think this is all down to the photo session and how the light is bouncing off the object behind the lenses -- in this case it's something black which could be reflecting greenish through the lenses. Don't forget that Prowse himself said that the lens color changed several times during filming -- IIRC this has also been backed up by Gary Kurtz and possibly Don Bies. Darthjones has also mentioned the use of colored gels behind the lenses.

I'd love to hear more of the back story of the screen used ANH Vader faceplate and how it got into Arnauds collection - perhaps Arnaud could chime in directly ;)

Plus we all would love to see a few more pics of it - after all these years waiting for the faceplate to resurface...

I think my book should arrive in about 10-12 days, but there is a Romanian postal strike for a few days already and seems it keeps going on this week too. :(

And yet the Arnaud Grunberg doesn't understand "viral marketing"... so he had the photos removed that would help sell his book. :gib:

I see no problem with the author wanting the pictures removed. If it was me who was publishing a new book and having spent a lot of time and money on it, I would feel very afraid of loss of sales if stuff from said book was posted freely online. We need to show respect and not be selfish in our quest for all things we obsess about.

Seriously, I'm amazed by the collection and that it is being shown off and not kept hidden. We should seriously consider protecting that instead of potentially damaging their interest in ever showing it off ever again.

Hope that makes sense.
