I recently purchased my first Vader helmet, the EFX ANH limited.
The company in Australia that I bought the limited off were about to ship it to me when Efx contacted them and asked them to inspect all of their helmets.
The guy called me and told me that he had just inspected them for scratches to the dome.
They were there and he had to send them all back. I tried to get the damaged one for a reduced price but Efx is apparently having them all returned to them to be "destroyed"
Anyway I am now told the replacements will arrive in late October.
It is great that Efx have such good quality controls on this item but I know that shipping to Australia cost over $200 for these so someone's doing their nuts on this mistake.
Given their intimate knowledge of the hobby will they really destroy them or will they be sent back to the supplier to be refinished, or is there going to be a secret stash of Efx ANH domes out there in someone's possession.
In theory there could be up to 1000 domes out there that only have scratches due to shipping issues.
I am sure that there would be a market for these seconds to people trying to recreate the original weathered/worn look, a good way to recoup some of these shipping costs.
I wonder what is really happening with these domes, are they in some secret underground storage unit in Virginia?
What do you think?

The domes will be destroyed. eFX has too much at stake if they don't. I doubt they'll strip and repaint as that'll probably take a lot more time and effort and money than simply destroying the affected domes, casting new ones and painting those.

Seeing that early picture of FedEX stacking the helmets irregardless of the writing specifically stating "This side up", so I'm guessing that FedEX will have to pony up either a discount or insurance for damaged items to eFX for failure to ship appropriately.

Otherwise, if all this falls on eFX because FedEX fucked up, then that's a horrible blow to that company that they do not deserve.

I suspect we will see them in a years time filtering into the market as 'artist proofs'. That's what I'm hoping for anyway!

I agree with no humour man on the company maintaining its "brand", it's already suffered due to this, however given the close relationship it's employees have to the hobby and given that both runs are sold out.
I know that if I was working there I would offer to buy them all as a bulk lot (they would be really cheap) and then refinish them myself and sell them as fanmade over a period of time. It would save someone a lot of time and effort to produce a great fan made dome.

The Limited may be listed as sold out on eFX's page, but it is still available at several vendors.

That would defeat the purpose of the original limited run if "refurbished" units hit the market en mass. The purpose is to have a limited edition of a complete finished helmet produced by eFX. Anything left over is their property to destroy as they see fit, but I think contractually they would have to destroy anything that wasn't sold as part of the licensed run. Making such an offer to buy them for resale would land you without a job pretty quick.

Didn't they already change the number of legends because the website ordering system messed up due to not being able to handle the traffic volume ?
Anyway it's good that they are having these damaged items returned whether they salvage some by refurbishing or just destroy the lot.
I remember when HGC screwed up the electronics with the 5th element blaster and let everyone keep them and sent out new replacements to them and everyone on the rpf was singing their praises for it.
It was blindingly obvious to me that they just did that to save a bundle of money for themselves and not some altruistic gesture on their part.
I don't personally give a crap about edition numbers etc but i thought that was a pretty crappy move to pull on those that do and the company justifies the prices based partly on those numbers.
