Review:

I found some of the real life comparisons with the Star Wars Universe a little dull at times and reaching. For Instance the comparison however loose with Hitler and the Emperor. I think it's well established that Star Wars goes hand in hand and influenced a Nazi style comparision for the Empire which is also reflected with some items from the world wars being used to dress the characters. Some of the book is interesting but I couldn't help feel at times that pages could be better spent in dedicating more to the Star Wars subject rather than relate to the influences which are only very basically covered. The layout is fairly glossy and well done. This is another older book first published in 1997 and released in 1998. I like these older books as some aspects were just not that widely available and for a 12 year old book it still fits in today and one could think it's a well put together visual package. Some nice images are obtained from this book.

Verdict:

This is worth a buy overall, it could be better but there aren't a great deal of books around like this anymore. 2-3 have taken a similar path nowadays but this was the first of it's kind.

I have to say that is is high on my list of must haves. There are some incredible costume photos that are quite large and crystal clear. I was able to use the old ben costume presented within to actually help create my pattern for my mannequin. I know that some of the props within are often not accurate to the film but accurate to the display on tour etc.......which takes away from the subject matter, however, there are a few that are displayed quite well. I am sorry to say I missed the MOM at the Smithsonian and many believe it to be the best comprehensive OT display to date. This book seems to be a wonderful chronicle of MOM from the photos that friends posted (who attended MOM). Though the displays are not necessarily accurate as a whole, they still give a view to some individual components of each piece which are quite eye opening because they show details not seen before. This is the one thing about this book that makes it so valuable to a propster and certainly justifies the purchase.
