So, what is known about this helmet?

Allegedly it is cast of a screen used helmet and imo, it certainly looks the part, moreso than most other helmets - it certainly has many of the knicks and dents matched to the screen helmet, though, unfortunately the story goes that the dome tabs were sanded down and the dome ring attached.

I have no reason not to believe that the history of this helmet is correct, but of course... I don't know for sure.

Any thoughts?

To me it does seem to have an original origin...either cast from the screen helmet or from a copy of the screen helmet (more likely from a copy of the screen helmet). Ya too bad the tabs were sanded off....real shame. It has a bit in common with the ESB movie poster helmet (which is ANH). But otherwise I think it's closer to the original ANH helmet than to the ESB movie poster helmet. I trust the history of this helmet...although the exact source of the mold it came from is unknown...but clearly from a reliable source. I love this helmet....

I think it's one of the best ANH's out there.

Edited for clarity.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread in light of DJ joining the forum. Hope that's okay. :cheers

I think DJ should send a copy to all the Vader experts (and me because I came up with it) and have them compare.
In return, I think all the Vader experts should send a cast of their respective helmets to DJ (and me because I suggested it).
No more Vader wars! Everybody wins!

:hehe-err

It is a very nice helmet indeed. I would love a copy as would most Vader collectors.

The only thing about it in the pics I have seen that I think looks mildly off is the dome seems to flare a bit on the left hand side (when looking onto the faceplate).

I don't know if it is due to postioning of the dome on the faceplate or not.

I have no reason to disbelieve the DJ story of provenence. I do not know DJ personally but have mutual friends who have said he is a top bloke.

I also know from a show off thread he is an excellent artist - if you read this DJ please post a link to your site - my favourite was called 'two earthlings' if my memory serves me well (which it doesn't a lot of the time :) ).

Oh yeah and do a run of helmets please :)

Cheers Chris

Hmm... that's one of the features to identify accurate helmets! :lol

Hi Carsten,

I still think from the pics it looks too far to the left - possibly just the positioning in comparison to the faceplate.

Cheers Chris

Depends on what scene in ANH you compare it with. :lol
