Hi people.

Spending hours and hours consulting results of google's images search.....I guess that some of you will understand what I mean ^^

So what about this picture???

Image

I've never seen it before. I don't mean that it could be a 3d scan of an original helmet (some details apperas to be wrong). Maybe a SDS faceplate, but not really sure.

Nevertheless, it's a cool pictures. Unfortunately, no more informations from the source except the fact that ILM is mentionned on the URL.

That company scanned Lucasfilm Archive props, so definitely legit.

Clearly a hero face mask. It just seems they either assembled the slices slightly wrong, or the perspective is throwing things off. Many 3D viewers are funky that way.

Thanks for the information.

I had doubt especially with the vocoder which appears soft and weird.

I'm very curious why they scanned it disassembled? I could understand for the complete helmet (as a reference scan for video games, toys and merchandise developpement,etc...).

Why disassemble such a rare piece, put it on a kind of molding support, and make a 3D scan? Very strange but so interesting.

I'd wager it's a scan of the efx hero faceplate. The support looks very similar to the one shown on the efx when it was done.

Yeah, that's actually a good theory. I can see that happening. Most of the "support" you see in the 3D scan is created when you fuse the model solid. I have those on all my scans as well.

I guess that FON is right. After studying the way the Hero helmet has been trimmed (top of the faceplate, teeth, eyes), the 3d scan appears to be very close.

Maybe that we will get the answer by EFX one day.... after all, they made a silicone mold of the Boba helmet but certainly scanned it for the engineering process of making the PCR moulds.

I compared the scan faceplate to the original hero eFX used, as well as their LE replica.

It seems to be their 3D, or Master Replicas 's scan :)

(guys, how do we add pictures to a post without it being a thumbnail ?)

Outside sources. Though I can ask support if there is a way to have it show up in the post like it used to a long time ago.
