I've seen this photo a few times - but I haven't seen this large and detailed. I know those globby details around the kill stripes weren't there on screen - they've been added afterwards. On purpose or some kind of damage? No idea.
Still - this photo really lets you see the nuanced craftsmanship of Joe Johnston's work. His work really didn't have that "paint by numbers" look at all.
In this photo - is Joe burnishing paint no the helmet, gently softening the details, buffing the helmet, or adding another light layer of paint for more detail? If you look closely at the helmet, in particular in the green fields, you can see light color washings - as if they were added via a cloth. Kinda like the one in the photo below.
