Scrolling through the recently added new titles on Netflix I came across the documentary *I Am Your Father* about Dave Prowse and his life, and experience during the making of the Star Wars movies, and what happened after, as well as other movies and other roles, such as the Green Cross Code commercials. I honestly enjoyed the documentary and thought it was really good and well worth my time and I would recommend it to anyone to go watch it.

The *I Am Your Father* IMDB page: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2949296/?ref_=nv_sr_1

There were a lot of behind the scenes photos shown from the making of Star Wars that I hadn't seen before and that was cool too - especially more images of the plaster cast of Prowse that was made for Brian Muir to do his sculpting magic on. And there were interviews with other people as well, such as Brian Muir and others.

What I found interesting was the fact that the director of the documentary also made a version of the RotJ Vader reveal scene featuring Prowse in scarred Anakin makeup, but sadly, wasn't allowed to show it. I honestly would have liked to see it, but understand why he couldn't and didn't show it. Still, I'd really like to see it.

All in all, a really good documentary about the man behind the mask. :)

I would absolutely encourage everyone to see it. The chapter about how Dave Prowse was basically black-balled by Lucasfilm was the most interesting to me as they do a very good job of delineating the facts and speak to the reporter who broke the story as well as Robert Watts and Gary Kurtz (though Kurtz was out of the loop by then he is included because the issue with Prowse's loose talk had been going on for a long time). You begin to get a real sense by what people are saying, and not saying, of how the whole thing descended into the debacle that it did. The material about his time as the Green Cross Man was great as well.

If I have any criticism of the film I think they spend too much time focusing on the guy who made the documentary and his love of Darth Vader. It's interesting at first because it's certainly relatable for most of us I'm sure but as the film goes on I kind of felt like it became about the film maker and his journey rather than Prowse. I think the film might have been aiming for a "here's my Darth Vader journey and how I got to know David Prowse" portrait but it comes across more as "Dave Prowse Documentary with occasional interruptions by the film maker". I also think they spend a little too much time talking to inarticulate fans about how awesome Darth Vader is. And yes, the ending is anti-climactic since he spends so much time talking about the scene he films then unfortunately can't show. Nonetheless, I would say it is essential viewing.

I would also suggest "Elstree 1976" as a decent documentary too. It's interviews with actors who played "minor" characters or masked characters in Star Wars: Jeremy Bulloch, Pam Rose (Cantina Alien Girl), the guy who played Greedo, et al.

...Elstree 1976 is fantastic. Loved the interviews of all the people behind the masks.

Cool. Have to see if I can find that too.

Still thinking about the re-shot Anakin reveal scene. Really would be cool to see it.

Someone with a bit of video and image editing skills could use Prowse from "Horror of Frankenstein" cut-and-pasted into the reveal scene to mock up something decent. And having Prowse in that scene would have been an appropriate tie-in relating Star Wars to those campy Hammer horror movies which featured not just Prowse but also Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. Campy, but appropriate.

Doesnt Elstree 1976 feature a prominent member of this forum, or is it just coincidentally the same name?
