That's some interesting news that it may be a different brand of paint. I believe there was an interview posted once with someone working on the movie who said that they often used metallic paint to simulate a metal object, either with weathering or painting it on and wiping it off again, as the paint left that metallic sheen even when removed. If it was just a standard art department highlight metallic color... then I guess it could be anything... unless we can narrow down which brand they favored to use in the UK at the studio where they filmed the movies.

Wow! a bit late to the party... I hadn't realised this thread had gone anywhere! LOL
Did anyone narrow down the gun metal? I think I need the ESB colour. :toothy

Well, since the TM was stripped down then our next best bet is to get another good look at the TM's brother that The Prop Store owns. Theoretically it should have productions colors.

That was an interesting read. I would love to find out what colour / brand was used for the ANH helmet. Maybe we should sweet talk the fellow in France who has the original ANH faceplate and ask if he would be so kind as to photograph it with a pantone colour chart or chip so that we could get a colour match ?

Yeah , I know I'm off daydreaming again. So what is the general consensus for the black used on the ANH ? At least I'll be able to start painting the black ...

Ron Punter the Vader painter said it was Roll Royce paint but didn't ellaborate on what specific colours were used.

Also the French ANH mask, if it's the original, has been repainted at least twice since end of filming. Once for the Chronicles shoot, and another repaint as it is now.

Has anyone come to a consensus on the proper RR paint used and an accurate US equivalent? Proper ESB colors is what I am shooting for.

Well, the black is probably the Mason's Black paint as it has the deepest and richest black look that to my eye exactly matches the paint used on Vader.

Gunmetal still, as far as I know, unknown.

I got some of the tudor grey and whilst not a total match to my ESB 20thC grey it's nice. I think I could live with it....It is slightly more yellow but i reckon you could add a bit of blue/green pigment to cool it slightly.....?

I'm going to get some mixed up by a local car paint shop. I'm going to go for Light tudor Grey and Masons Black. I'll let you all know how I get on. :thumbsup
