Hey, Gang!

While I'm nowhere near as active with all of this as I used to be, I have had an on and off project going on. Years ago, before Thomas acquired the SL, there was to be a project based off of the DJ helmet. And while this project began, it was aborted since the SL had not been painted, etc. etc. Anyhoo, here is the "DJ" helmet along side an ESB I made from a DJ cast. So basically I started with the helmet on the left and studied the ESB changes. The biggest change it turns out is the leveling off of the bottom of the dome flange - about 3/4 inch is sanded or ground off of the sides so that the dome, when on a table, lies basically flat whereas the ANH dome will rock n roll. Things like that. I cut a bigger triangle, sanded, blah blah blah - but the whole point is that I wanted to experience the changes for myself instead of just getting and painting an ESB helmet. Does that make sense?

High praise from you, man! I need to get better photos but it was wild. I wonder if anyone else has done this? You come out knowing a LOT more about the ANH - ROTJ differences. From ESB to ROTJ it seems mainly that the dome was further smoothed of waves more than anything (and flatter eyes). But it was scary grinding down the flange!!

This cast was not out of the Rick Baker mold. It was one step further down from DJ/ SL and from a mold that no longer exists unfortunately. It has been lying around for years and I do not have any other remaining casts. In addition, one of the reasons it has been converted into an ESB is because it had gotten way too much "repair" work years ago and could not be a real ANH because it had been cleaned up too much. So, instant ESB prospect.

The only other helmet from that mold is the one I used for my mannequin.

The screen in the mouth is close but not perfect. Works for now. And while way back I might have used a clear coat on it, this here is just the polished paint.

And I would love to take better shots!!!

Nice work! Of course it makes sense. Replay value, and there's nothing like getting hands-on to really appreciate the details.

And an additional of the side...

I also made a neck repair since the DJ neck is curled in like the ESB promo poster
