I was wondering when/if this helmet would make a public appearance. I have a pic of it from many years ago that was shared with me by a friend. I thought it was in Europe somewhere? It appears to be in the same state now as it was way back then in the photo. Interesting to see it surface now. Either way, thanks for showing it. Looks similar to the TM and the TD before those two had any alterations done to them.

The original TM was altered once it came out of the mold in preparation for ESB. That's what I meant. As far as the TD, I refer to the neck extension that was once there. If you had all 3 side by side, I'm sure there are a lot more similarities.

Well the only "alteration" on the TD is the shorter tusk tube ends. Perhaps the refinements made to the rear undercut and top of the upper tube ends but that's about it. I'm not sure why you would (still?) say there was once a neck extension on the TD ANH when you haven't seen it in person, and if you did you would see that it has a bottom neck edge that has cut marks that are part of the casting and which therefore came from the mold and was therefore not trimmed after that fact.

The TM is a copy of an original ESB mask which itself had the eyebrows modified on their front edges as well as inside the eyebrows and along the inside of the nose bridge. The TM dome is original.

Actually side by side there are quite a number of differences between the TD and TM...perhaps for another thread :).

Perhaps fishing for a Value? An investor?

Interesting indeed.

The dome is very interesting.

I'd love to see a tab comparison between the TM, TD and now this ROTJ (I can't remember if the SL had the tabs intact).

Maybe I'm reading things backward but I think he said the crew member passed away, so the new owner might not have been given all the details.

That is correct - after the passing of the crew member the helmet was inherited by a close family member. So it's been a family memento they know has some significant importance.

There were no tabs on DJ/ SL casts. You can see they were unscrewed for molding though.

Turns out this didn't belong to the crew member I thought and I'm hoping the person who knows about this will chime in here...

As DJ mentioned there are no tabs on the SL. I've had a quick look already comparing the TD/TM and this ROTJ helmet tabs but need to see what differences they might have when I get some time.

This helmet needs a name. UK ROTJ? I would have used the owner's name but I think he might prefer anonymity.
