Darthvaderv contributed almost 10 years ago what I consider the authoritative write-up regarding ESB dome shape and positioning:

http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=16564/

To reproduce the variety of ANH dome positions as seen on screen, without implementing the original 3M tab design, you could implement something that emulates a ball-and-socket joint. In the thread below I describe this and show how I removed the dome ring of my Darth Ugly ANH and replaced it with industrial-strength velcro to replicate as best I could some of the on-screen dome positionings (the good and the bad!):

Bravo. This sets a high standard to shoot for. Are you able to share your paint brands/codes? Love the matte/mottled finish.

Thanks man. If you use hammerite black or rolls Royce black you will get good results.I've used both in the past and they are similar. A bit more natural shine to the hammerite but harder to use.
With the gunmetal I'd advise to go through trial and error to achieve the look on screen. That's harder to locate. My advice would be if you're unsuccessful with the standard paints is to take a mask with gunmetal on to a professional auto store and with pics tell them if you want it darker or lighter. If you get someone helpful they should be able to match a colour for you. If it's too light or too dark they could do a good match.

I'm being a bit vague for a reason but I hope that process may help.

Thanks. Last year I tested Rolls Royce black and gunmetal colors and this year I plan to test various model paints to nail down a gunmetal or silver or custom mix which matches.

Would love advice on Anh dome positioning to match Vader in the tantive4 corridor
I've been going over this time & time again with my Anh Vader .
It's a tough one,
How far forward does the widows peak sit off from the facemask . From the side on shots of tantive 4 it looks to me like there is a 5-8mm air gap

You're welcome. If you can train your eyes to see it, you might also have a look at the 3D image pair of the Tantive IV Vader I posted at http://thepropden.aokforums.com/viewtopic.php?p=67923#p67923

These quick test shots were taken early last year for lighting reference, they were never meant to be shown due to the arrangement of parts not aligning properly like the dome, saber hook, armour, cod and the spot lights in the room throwing the armour colour, despite it being the same as the mask. Additionally the shoulder bells are not on at that time. You can see the progression though of the actual display.

Looks like photos taken just after production wrapped with the Velcro and scratches and other wear. Of course the parts are excellent, but the attention to detail puts it over the top. Nice work. I can only hope to achieve something close someday.

:salut Thanks! The tantive scenes and just after production (KE) was what I was aiming for.

This may very well may be the best (most accurate?) ANH Vader helmet I've seen to date. It looks like DV walked right off the screen from Tantive IV and posed for portrait. The wonderfully scratchiness/imperfect weathered brush strokes of the paint job (flakes/chips included), looks a bit dusty :lol Even the color looks spot on.

I'll always be an ESB guy, in for the long haul, but pics like this definitely show me that the ANH helmet was the baddest ass of them all. Just the level of detailing here really echoes the screen used prop. Great looking piece here Paul!
