Hey guys. I mentioned this to one of you awhile back. Now the picture is out in a public venue so I'm reposting here.

I'm thinking it's a raw casting from the UK mould. Do you agree?
Interesting because this is not the helmet we see in other similar pictures of this scene is it?

Interesting clear shot of this near unpainted cast. The other cast is painted and finished, and that one also has the neck extension.

Looks like a miniature to me, not 1:1 scale.

As it is in the same physical spot as the other painted Dagobah rolling helmet that's not possible. Also, they didn't have the capability to make such an accurate scaled replica back then. It's full scale and visible in the movie.

I think it's a special effects helmet made for the shot where the helmet actually explodes.

That dome flare wow. Looks like the DPCA. Which makes me wonder if this might have been made of vinyl... some material that could withstand an exploding facemask nearby and still be used in the next shot for continuity.

As for whether it originated from the UK mold, I can say with absolute certainty... I have no idea. :)

They probably just used a mis-cast dome.

This is a screen capture of the helmet in the movie.

The screen capture face mask and the blown up face mask with the Luke head inside share the same irregular pattern on the neck, which the face mask in the first picture do not have. And neither the blown up face mask, nor the one in the movie sports a neck extension. The dome is the same...

Yes the dome is the identical dome but the mask is different in so many ways and how it is placed on the photo suggests to me strongly that it was photoshopped in. I could point out all the differences....how can you have something so different inside the same dome in the same scene?

If that mask is photoshopped in, that's one helluva a good PS job. Perfect focus transitions, matched the lighting, same film grain. The focus fall off also tells me it's not photoshopped - seems too perfect, and it looks like a lens rendered the bokeh along the top and bottom edges of the neck. That's what I'm seeing...

Would the production team have thrown in a stunt mask as a stand in for a test throw or two to see how it lands so they could film it correctly? Why damage the screen used version prior to filming? Not hard to believe someone walked up an popped a photo of it sitting on the ground. Those movies are littered with behind the scenes stills.

I love that face mask, while a rough cast the facial features are crisp and sharp, and there's the neck extension plain as day :thumbs

It's screaming TM to me.

The mesh in the upper mouth vent looks like an ANH pattern, a different mesh from the lower mouth opening.
