Hi guys, been a while since my scratch built Vader, have finally come around to starting my Rubies Mod (ROTJ), i know a lot of vader enthusiasts hate this (Rubies helmet) but i hope i can get it to be 501st acceptable...here goes...

Image
started with removing the lenses...etc..

Image
Image
Image
Image
started on the eyelids (frown), the nose and the bridge...

Image
Image
Image
Image

raised the left cheek ( by the nose), thickened side of the vents, lengthened and squared off the vents, thickened the lower lip...

Image
Image
Image
gray primer helps to check where refinement is needed..

heres where its currently at..

will add more pics soon..

comments and suggestions highly welcomed..

:lol

ok here are some lid mod pics ( initial)

Image

Image
Image
Image
Image

used a dremel to remove excess material from the dome, put a 1 inch strip of duct tape as a guide to the midstrip..

Image
Image

found a cheapo pair of sunglasses that has the approximate size for the lenses..

Image

and some screws as the start of the tusks...

Image
Image
Image
Image

did a paint test to see if the dark gray paint i will be using will be ok with the black...trying to emulate the darker setting of ROTJ, hence a darker gray instead of gunmetal...

I'm backtracking a bit but how did you go about extending the depth of the eye sockets? On my Rubies they are extremely shallow and the lens especially on the bottom is basically flush with the front of the helmet having no depth at all. Is the molding compound you're using strong enough to just have a thin extension or did you have to build it up a bit for strength? I guess its the view from within the mask of the eyesockets I'm curious about.

the waterstop epoxy clay is really tough stuff. built up the lower and upper lids in increments inwards till was satisfied with the depth ( just eyeballed it though), will take photo of the inside of the mask, not as thick as one would imagine.

I like the look of those mods. With this type of mask of course more can be done, but would require surgery to get it ultra accurate. This looks great.

The grey needs to be replaced. It should be a metallic color, not just a basic grey. Otherwise everything looks really nice. :)

It's hard to believe there's a Rubies Supreme behind these fine mods!

For the gray part of the nose at the left and right corners you may want to have a slight curve in the gray paint at those locations. That's what I perceive at least looking at movie screenshots.
