Hot Toys seems to post pictures of their new upcoming releases on a weekly basis, but it's always a bit of a surprise which release they decide to tease.

Hey, JKNO, would you mind if this thread was merged with the other Hot Toys Star Wars thread?

Not bad! I have to critique the helmet some. The shape is a bit off; the bottom third of the front of the helmet is too large. You should not be able to see the bottom black line on the side Trapezoids. The lines on the tears are a bit too dense and the angle is off and they should not touch the outside border. It's cool that they put the screw details in the ears but because the frown is a hero the middle screw should be omitted. Ribbed brow trim? That's a first. Liking the tube stripes though!

Yes, the helmet is definitely emulating the hero style. I don't think it is ribbed... I feel it is lighting hitting the brow trim with them trying to figure out what they are seeing in pictures with the angle changes and such. The glossiness of the trim is also throwing things off a bit - it should be semi-gloss to simulate rubber instead.

Though, unlike Sideshow, Hot Toys really do listen to the fans, so the more we let them know of what they should change to make it more accurate, the more accurate it will be.

Well, from those I'd say it's almost on par with the Marmit. Shouldn't the ribbing on the leather suit be a bit wider, though?

Peeps on the Sideshowcollectors forum mention that they may use some Sideshow parts on this prototype piece. They definitely need to fix the leather suit. It just looks weird.

I know they probably can't use reference from another licensed company other than Sideshow, but if they lack physical reference such as a helmet, they could or should check out the eFX Vader helmet.

Thought this is just a prototype, it is still a very good representation for the ANH Vader helmet. Here's what eFX had to say when posting that image:
Quote:
Please note the following:

-This is just the first castings from a PRE-production mold. There is still a lot of work to do on it!
- I just placed the dome on top so the position is not exactly correct.
- There are no lenses in this casting. The black is the mannequin head!
- We are still working on the production line fixtures to prevent deformation of the castings through the production process. (Other than what is supposed to be there!)

One of the "problem" areas is the flare at the bottom of the neck. We are working with the vendor on this. That flare is about 1" off from the master pattern!
we are also addressing the fact that they are not following the trim line EXACTLY as we scribed it in the master pattern.

But, this is the usual process where it takes about the same amount of time to accomplish the first 90% of the development as it does to accomplish the last 10% to address the "fine" details.

Thanks!

Bryan

Not too enthusiastic about the HT Vader either

I took another, closer, look and I am forced to agree Turrican they are pretty off aren't they?

Not feeling it with the Vader either.

A new video.

Honestly, I think it is nice, though there is room for improvement.

I'm not convinced either. Most likely I'll pass on it. I wanted a really good Vader. This is a nice one, but not really good. Will keep my money for something else.
