Looking at getting a "detail" gun to spray with (size in between air brush and full size sprayer). Need suggestions on brands, gravity feed vs siphon, also misc stuff like regulators, moisture traps, etc.

There are different sized spray guns. The best bet is to check out an auto paint store and hear what they have.

Wow this is a hard question. Just like everything else in the world the answer depends on your budget. Do you paint a lot or just a hobby paint from time to time? Are you one of those guys that want the "best" or will "good" do for you? What kinda air supply do you have , how big is the storage?

Well i checked back at this post and decided i will give my opinion anyway since this is a common question i get asked all the time. IMO the best hvlp guns on the market are Iwata follwed by Sata ...... Both of these guns carry a heafty price tag. For a budget gun for around 100 bucks you can get a Sharpe Finex fx1000 mini. This is the best gun for a hobbyist and bang for the buck and it isnt an air hog. Realize that not all guns are created equal Atomization is the key. Now you can get cheaper guns but IMO they arent worth it. I will try to explain , the better atomization makes the paint lay flat and smooth and will require less wet sanding if you are going for that glass smooth finish. I consider time as wasted money because EVERYONES time is worth something. One small job and you have payed for that extra 30 to 40 bucks. The sharpe will spray to some peoples desired finish without wet sanding.

A lot of people who are doing helmets ,armor ect. will only need a airbrush. For those needing an airbrush take a look at the Iwata Neo ..... Its Iwata's low end air brush and sells for around 60 bucks. It rivals several of the 200 - 400 dollar air brush's on the market.
