That's a very nice outfit you've put together there.

Regarding the forum... it's only as active as its users want to be.

Thanks for the comment...A full Vader costume isnt easy to do.

Could we do something to wake people up in here? :whip2

Oh, I know... hell... I'm struggling with just the helmet... so to think about doing a whole costume, I would surely die.

Well, currently, I have no ideas.

The thing I immediately zero in on is the chest armor. It just looks too wide for your figure. Perhaps you should consider acquiring a stunt armor that isn't as wide.

What make is your armor? Portumac?

Back in the day (and there are sets still floating around) Portumac had his own sculpt that was allegedly Prowse-size but were actually larger than what Prowse wore.

I apologize in advance if this is unsolicited advice.

Consider losing the bells temporarily and see how you look. You could use soft shoulder pads from a fabric store to soften the edge of the armor at the shoulder area.

If you want to get brave, consider modifying the armor, at least 1" on either side and 1" down front.

I think by narrowing your silhouette, you will look better overall. :thumbsup

That mockup really shows what a difference the "correct" size can make! In Mac's simulation with narrower shoulders, you not only look proportionally more right as Vader, but also taller!

WOW, yeah, that made a huge difference. Definitely go for a more proportionately sized armor. There is an SPFX set on sale in the Black Market section, in case it hasn't been snagged up already. Works very well for RotJ.

Yeah I can see what you guys are talking about. lol you guys are the first to point out the armor size.

IVe posted a lot more costume shots on the 501st Sith lord Detachment forum and no one has mentioned it what soo ever.

That is a nice simulation with smaller shoulders, but honestly in my view it makes me look like Darth Bobble head there.

Next time I suit up....in the process of repainting the helmet seen in the photos. Im going to try to lower and push in the shoulder bells more. The Set is Portumac. I bought it near the end of last year. He does have a scaled set...would you guys happen to know of the scaled plate would fit the shoulder bells that came with the larger set?

Well, all I can say is that you've come to the hardcore group. I don't know what level of OCD nitpickery the 501st are into, but here we go into nano-details.

I think that may be caused by you having been conditioned to the wider shoulder look. You have to unsee... or rather... unlearn that particular inaccurate proportions look.

Honestly, don't know anything about Portumac's wares - could be an idea to check with him. But there's no guarantee that the other set is any more accurate or going to look good on you.

Honestly. I dont think the shoulders need to be smaller and brought in more....I just think they need to slope a bit more.

Honestly, I think the inaccurate proportions of the whole costume is due to your size. You are trying to wear a Prowse size helmet and chest armor and your frame size is just to small to make it work. Maybe I'm wrong, but this is what I see.

Michael

I had the same problem.
The first armor was to wide for my proportions (I'm 6.5ft / 1.98m but slim type).
Then I bought a mid-size armor which fits me a lot better now.

Edit: Here are the dimension of my armor (according to Mac's parameters):
Corner to corner: 39cm (15.35")
Shoulder to shoulder: 56cm (22.04")
Approx. neckline width: 26cm /10.23")

Here a picture:
(The helmet is SPFX ESB. The armor is from a vendor I don't like to mention in public, because I heard later from his bad private reputation).

In comparison to a somewhat similar view of the original (with the bells inside attached):

Those who wonder why my helmet dome is covered:
My painter said proudly: "Even these casting defects on the front of the dome I repaired" :eek :pale :banger
Nightmare! :drool For us it's all so obvious ...
So I had to restore this feature very carefully ... With time one becomes courageous!
