Hey all

It seems that there are a hundred ways to remove old paint from fiberglass. But only a few will actually give you the results that you need.

This is my latest attempt at stripping paint. I used a new media this time of crushed walnut shells, and it seems to have worked out just great.

This face plate has been sitting on my shelf for what seems like 20 years. I will be very happy to finally see it repaired and repainted again very soon.

Yes, this is one that Jez sold some years ago, that apparently became damaged in transit to the new owner. Regrettably it has sat pretty much untouched for all this time. I just did not have a proper way to remove the old and thick paint without damage to the substrate beneath.

However now I am in the new studio and do have many new and exciting toys to play with for just such restorations. Thinking of going with a brushed on ANH look. My new amber lenses, and Kurty Boy grills.

I have been working on this again lately. A bit of sanding and clean up of the casting before making the repairs to the tusk ends.

I went ahead and primed it with some 2 part urethane primer. I know that I still had a few areas that needed some filler work, (pin holes) but I was in the middle of priming other projects and I just though, why not.

The dark haze on the surface is just black lacquer spray can stuff applied from about a foot away. It helps a lot when final sanding to show the small imperfections that you may have missed otherwise.

Just some quick progress photos.

I did manage to get a coat of black on the face plate yesterday. I think that it turned out OK for something that I media blasted the old finish off from. Laid up one coat of clear on top of a black base coat. I didn't any dust in the finish. But I did miss one pinhole in the lower forehead area. This will get covered up when I brush on the gun metal gray latter on.

Feels like I just updated this yesterday.

Sorry, Kieth. Not ignoring you, or trying to anyway. Let me get the inch of dust off this piece and post up some fresh photos this weekend.

Any progress at all on this Kent? Haven't seen anything since your last photos back in February.
