I think you can use any kind of filler, but it should say "makes the surfece smooth" or "No pores"

Fill the hole upper eyebrow and use some kind of soft plastic piece when you put it on, so you can get that concave surface of the eyebrow.

But dont forget to sand and wash the surfece you want to fill

I think my ridge is a little thick, and sharp for ESB. planning to round it off a bit. What do people think?

Sharpness and shape looks good. Agree on it being wide. Sand it down to a 1" width from the right side only, as the left side looks like it's spot on where it should be.

This is my suggestion:

trimmed the ridge a little bit....

used the auto body filler for the upper eyelids.

now to sand, sand and sand....

I am thinking of spraying this with an airbrush. But not sure if I will be able to get the appropriate coverage. I'm thinking it'll give me a lot better control than a spraycan.

Just a little more. A trick to get it even is to use a compass, set it at about 1", then place the point on the left side and drag it slowly down, letting it draw the line on the right side and then file that side in to about that line. It basically has to go in to were that nick at the widows peak is.

Dome probably needs to tilt back a bit, but I'll fine tune that at the end.

finishing off the thickened dome edge. I think it needs to be thinner, and more angled in. Did the original helmets have the front edge facing forward, or facing a little in? How thick were the dome edges?

The finish looks nice and smooth. Did you have any problems with paint drips or did it just apply like a dream?

TMG- I had one little paint drip, which has flattened out after a day. I had some problems with blushing as I was too impatient to wait for the weather to warm up, and got some water condensation on the top coat of black. I corrected this by warming the helmet up, warming the room up and spraying a medium to wet final coat on top. All in all, I'm quite happy with the lacquer paint I'm using. Goes on much better than the enamels or acrylics I use on my models. Next step is to wait a week, then mask and apply the tamiya gun metal. I'm still wondering if I should clear coat and buff the helmet? Also, what colour is the inner, straight eye lid, on either side of the nose bridge. I noticed on your templates, they are gunmetal, but some others had painted it black, and some screen caps look black (shadow perhaps)

here is a pic after the final base coat

The eye lid at the nose bridge should be gunmetal.

Looking good.

thanks for all the help so far. I'm a little scared to mask and spray the gunmetal now. I decided to check my Tamiya Masking tape, on the top of the face mask and discovered that it lifted the paint! OK, it was on an area that I didn't prep properly, no presanding, small layer of primer/surfacer then gloss black on top- so I'm hoping the paint won't lift on the face where I have sanded the base plastic, primed with several coats and sanded with 600grit and washed down....

Has anyone had problems with paint lifting off from masking tape on a properly prepped Rubies? I'm a little scared this would happen.... half thinking of hand painting the gunmetal!

I think you need to let it cure a bit more before doing the gunmetal. That may prevent peeling paint in the masked areas.

Though, if it keeps doing it, it's because it doesn't adhere to the surface, so you'll either have to strip or sand it down, then apply a light coat, misting it on - almost a dry coat, as you don't make it a covering coat at first, because you need to create the grip with the surface first. And you may do a few of those misting coats before applying the final "wet" covering coat of the gloss black. Though, if you gloss clear coat anyway, you might as well just spray it with flat black - easier to handle, easier to get a covering coat without drips and once shot with clear coat looks just as awesome.

At least that's my suggestion.
