I know guys, a strange title for this topic. And again another frenzy after too long hours of observations.

I always really liked this screen used helmet:

Image

I know that it's just a stormtrooper helmet among so many others. But I was always suprised by the way it was finished.

Here's a pic which will illustrate my explanations:

Image

This helmet clearly have the ROTJ V1 (reconditionned ESB MK2) shape (with the ANH/ESB ears). But strangely it has the ROTJ v2 finish. Same paint scheme (long vocoder, rounded frown), machined mic tips (and not reconditionned Hovi Mix Pa2), silkscreened decals based on the new design (ROTJ V1 looks to have a paper copy of the ESB design).

It would be cool to know if this one was made out of smooth or pinseal ABS.

I know it's not a revolution (especially for an helmet not identified on screen), but I would like to know your opinions on this helmet.

Thanks.

I think that the ESB Mark II helmets were re-used in ROTJ.

My first helmet pictured above came from the docking bay set of ROTJ. The helmet you mentioned above looks like it was repainted in the ROTJ style with the new decals and mic tips as you mention. Would be interesting to see if the Mark II shaped helmets have a haircell texture inside.

I haven't seen a Mark II helmet in screencaps, but there was definitely one on set!

Joe

PS: Or they re-used the Mark II moulds in ROTJ. We could never be sure, they re-used loads of helmets. The Endor drum helmet must have been in all three films....

Maybe a production made helmet never finalized for ESB and then finalized and used for ROTJ (it could explain why it has all the details of a V2 but the shape of the V1.

I say it is an ESB MKII painted up ROTJ style. Matt (TE) was the same. I said it years ago and no one paid any attention.

ROTJ helmets are very similar but have the newly sculpted ear, something which this helmet does not have.

This is the helmet owned by Matt (TE).

I guess that we are not many collectors to be fond off ROTJ helmets.... so the little details which makes an helmet unique or really particular.... :rolleyes

Nevertheless, I really like this one. Some call it "Hero" ROTJ (I'm not sure if it's you Paul who used this term, I read it on FISD).

I always was intrigued by this helmet too. At a certain point I got two of them from Matt(TE). I finished both of them in different styles, ESB and ROTJ if you guys remembered. Original Most of us thought both of them were ROTJ, included myself.

Cheers

Hi guys - been away for a while but this subject always interests me. Especially as Christies called me in last year to authenticate the ESB mk2 suit.

As many of you know I spent a long time trying to get to the bottom of the "ESB Mk2 " issue, both before the Christies auction as well as a couple of year prior to that when I went through John Mollo's notes with him (from 1979).

Like I said Ive been out of it for a while but wondereed if anything has changed - has anyone got a decent photo of a Mk2 helmet - either in the movie, behind the scenes etc. I've seen some promo shots from the May 20th 1980 "Empire Day" which looked interesting but due to distance it wasnt really possible to nail them

Cheeers

Hi Jez. You should check some pics of the stormtroopers helmets exposed at the Star Wars Identities exhibition (Montreal):
