Carsten

Apparently the first run of TE ROTJ vac formed helmets came from the outside of the original as he never cast one from the inside. Do you think your cast is the same original that fathered the first TE ROTJ vac formed run?

I have absolutely no clue. I just thought someone mentioned that TE didn't recognize the cast. And why would he use a fiberglass helmet as a forming buck?

It's not what Matt told me when I asked about this fiberglass helmet (some month ago).

He told me that it's not him who made these helmets but he knows the guy and yes it came from the original ROTJ helmet he owned!

But who knows the true in this crazy hobby :rolleyes

No not a fibreglass buck Carsten, I meant do you think his bucks came from this same original helmet that was the source of your casting?

Ah, then I must have misunderstood. Cheers for setting me straight. It's still interesting to study the differences between my cast and how the original looks now, so at some point after the mold was made that made this cast the original was taken apart, as for instance the ears sit very differently... or maybe just the ears were removed and some of the decals!?

Was there any word as to how many of these fiberglass copies exist?

Oh, sorry for misunderstanding. It just seems likely that the buck and this cast came from the same mold. Though, I don't know how the first TE RotJ helmets looked, so I can't really make an educated guess, but if you say they were softer and larger than they should be, then it seems only likely.

Well, I might as well reveal the reason for me wanting to get in touch with the maker of my helmet. It was to ask him permission to make a scaled companion piece of it for the SFS and also the Vader projects. That's not gonna happen now, I'm afraid, but I see no reason not to show off the scan though. It is NOT on par with the SFS scan that was done by professionals with professional equipment, but it's pretty damn good for a home-made setup.

If there will ever be a scaled replica of an accurate trooper, it won't be from this scan, sadly. Oh well. It was fun to do (headache-inducing, but what the hell).

Sorry for this stupid supposition, but finally, isn't it simply a raw Matizza ROTJ helmet??

http://thepropden.aokforums.com/vp35988.html

PS: Thanks for the pics of the scan! The best way to see the correct shape and all the details.

Do you think that you could recreate the shape of the ROTJ decals with your helmet?

It could be related. They look surprisingly similar, save for the sanded down frown.

I could partly recreate the decals... though, they are not perfect. Some of it is pure guesswork - especially on the tube decals.
Sent the high res version to TK-4510. Still haven't heard back whether he could actually use my line drawings.
I've been refining the drawings since I made these.

Awesome Carsten

You should print some of these off. I would love a set.

Got your pm on the RPF, I will speak to Mark about that.

Oh, these are not decals. These are just from the tracings I did off the helmet. I did the frown too, in case people wanted it as a paint guide. Tried getting the vocoder detail too, but the shape was impossible to trace off of, so that's why there's a blank space in there.

Well, I have no printing options for something like that. I'll keep refining the drawings, but honestly think that people wanting decals should just contact TK-4510, as he's the guy for that sort of thing. Mine will never be as accurate as what he'll produce.

And cool. Hope something comes out of it, but it's okay if it doesn't. Just checking my options.

I did send your drawing/outline to Mike. I will chase him up again.

You should scan this helmet as well, that would be very cool.
