In all seriousness this a great find, just a shame the owner sanded it down. He was only saved by the armour. On the helmet alone that sanding session would have cost him 90% of the value.

Terrible shame the paint is gone, but great to see the detail that has come out of it.

If I could afford it, I'd buy it, display it and think: "Hey... that's so cool!"

Yeah, so the helmet was disassembled ...... wanna bet it was casted for copies?????? One can only dream.....

It might have been cast at some point, but someone who invests over $200k into a helmet is most likely not going to risk harm to his investment and will endeavor to keep it in its current condition as carefully as possible.

I don't think this sold..... As far as I know anyway. the owner got cold feet and shut shop. I think he got fed up with all the hassle.

He was probably asked to sell for non-profit...

Some info on this suit .
The suit is complete , all the plastic is there but no undersuit/shoes/gloves etc.
Im sure you have all read my post on the RPF thread and the two pictures showing the suit , so I wont repost them here.
The Owner asked me to make that post on the RPF and the FISD as he was particularly annoyed at how his pictures , originaly posted on a small local U.K. board had been copied without his permission , and some how the Prop Blog had concocted the "SOLD" story from thin air. Chinese whispers doesnt even enter into it !!

Myself and Paul (TM) were lucky enough to spend an evening with the owner (Simon) and the suit. Boy is it thin and fragile, but to actually touch the only known New Hope suit in "fan" hands was a pleasure.(and for an old Star Wars fan like me , an honour. I didnt get to try it on ...but theres allways next time )

Ill answer any questions you guys have about the suit , but promised Simon not to post the photos I took . Sorry guys.

The suit IS for sale however. The price stated on the Prop Blog is probably around the asking price . (Dan got one bit right)

Any posts in regards to this suit however are not to be posted around the other boards, Im posting here because Ive been told you guys are the experts. ???

Regarding my comment on the helmet, possibly a previous owner disassembled the helmet to better sand off all the paint..... but I'm more likely to believe that it was then casted at some point. TM has commented in other posts that TE's helmet wasn't the only one copied.... just thinking out loud... regardless - the most important pictures since the LFL ones..... things just keep getting better... Thanks to all involved...

The helmet has never been cast . It was dissasembled by Simon as his original intention , on getting the suit out of his loft where it had been for 20 odd years, was to restore it . He removed the paint to respray it . At this point he posted on a local board and was advised that he would be best not restoring the suit for now.
Upon realising how rare and valuable the suit is , Simon halted restoration.
The helmet is a very clean sharp pull, and the hdpe is very thin in places ,especially under the chin and at the mouth edges.

Cool. You have a rare opportunity here, as you have a disassembled helmet and I was just wondering if it has the tube kink as shown in this picture or whether it straightened out when it was taken apart as some claim it would?



It's the one area that isn't shown in any of the pictures.
