Ok recently i was lucky to get hold of a new DL tk helmet from my good buddy Rolf aka TD 252.

He did an awesome job building and detailing the helmet, my hat goes off to him :D

Anyway here are some pics of my new family member getting to know his brothers here with me, more pics to follow..

Your lineup is amazing. The DL, for some reason, appears very flared to me. I'm not sure what it is. At some angles it is as if the forehead too far forward and may be to tall. When you look a the TE and the TE2, the proportions look "right". I don't quite get the same feeling with the Laws, but can't put my finger on it. Perhaps it was assembly? The forehead's slope and the angle of the face appear off as well.

It probably looks a bit off to some since it is based on the "Dave M" helmet, where the majority of helmets are based on the "Brian R" helmet..and they look very different from one another..

Awesome collection Mark. :thumbsup

Your new DL helmet looks very nice, but I have to agree with Mac; the "look" is different from any other TK helmet I've seen.

It could be the assembly, but personally I think the cap is just too tall.

The face plate looks great though.

Everyone says this DL lid looks odd and they cant put their finger on it.. but in person it actually looks very good. The cap looks tall in the pics but is just because we are used to looking at the brian r version such as TE, Gino and the TE2.

It varies quite a bit from the norm but then some features are very similar. The face plate looks wider than the te where the the face joins the top of the tubes and the faceplate angle sits further out more like the sds range but plenty of helmets in the film were this way.

It is by far my favourite helmet so far, closley followed by my TE abs hero.

I have a great deal of respect for Laws' work, so please, everyone, don't feel that I'm knocking his work.

I felt that the faceplate's chin was angled out too much, a bit like a TIE Pilot.

So when you have a faceplate that is angled out too much in conjunction with a really tall skullcap, you get this:

Image

When I study the side, I notice a larger gap between the earpiece and the "tearduct" (or whatever you call that thing on the cheek).

Image

The angle of the face is more pronounced as well.

What do you think?

You will have to compare the dan laws lid with the dave m helmet specifically as they were all put together differently which is why the end look can be so varied between stormtrooper lids.

Assembly can make a vast change to the way these things look :thumbsup

I would disagree as the SFS foam helmet which this is based on doesn't suffer from the same unusual look. It does look like a ROTJ helmet from the side. Something is def wrong with the cap/back piece. I think Mac is right, the face is jutting out too much at the bottom, although all the Laws helmets have looked odd to me....

Still it's a beautiful helmet but I don't think the cap/back is accurate compared to the original.

I think Dan has over modified a few areas on this helmet from what I can see. The whole thing is too wide, even the face looks bulged out. The dome/forehead looks too big and it's making the helmet look odd too me. Of course, the face isn't positioned too well and is making it look unusual.

All the original helmets were made from the same moulds and although some helmets looks different due to assembly issues, they are all the same if disassembled.
