Hi!

One of my all time favorite vehicles from Star Wars is the AT-AT. I have looked at the Revell AT-AT in the stores sometime, thinking that it could be nice with a few mods done to it. A few weeks back I bought one. Over all its a nice kit with a cool size.

The biggest problem with the kit is the head but I decided to mod the original head. I didnt aim for total accuracy, but I still wanted it to feel like a "real" AT-AT.

I cut out the window and reshaped the size and look of the window part. The head armour is missing on the original model so I made new ones out of plastic. I detailed it and replaced the lower canons, I added details to the side canons too.

I know it isnt 100 % like the original, but I still like how it turned out.

I sanded the body to remove the raised details and then scribed new ones. This was the first kit I scribed and it was a good kit to start on, being so big and having so straight edges. I washed the parts before I started to assemble the legs.

I will now start to work on the pins that connect the leg and feet. The original parts dont look right.

I will also remake the plates on the higher leg joints.

I can recommend this kit. Its really fun to build but it needs some love to be right.

Cheers.

You've done a pretty nice job so far. :thumbsup

How large is it compared to the MR AT-AT?

Cheers and keep us posted on your progress! :thumbsup

Thanks!

The Revell stands about 32 cm tall. I guess the MR is studio scaled and therefore it should be 51 cm? Please correct me if Im wrong.

Cheers

Update.

I just finished and tested the parts connecting the feet to the legs.

They allow full movement.

Thank you guys! :cheers

This kit is great fun!

Now Im planning on how to use screws, at least in the hip joints, in order to make it stable, and give the ability to make fine adjustments in posing.

It will be something new to me so I need to think it through. Ill post when I found a way.

Cheers

Did you weather the kit that way? How did you go about it? With washes?

Hi Scott. Thank you! :cheers

In the pics above I had painted it with standard grey primer I masked a panel and painted it with a slightly different grey. After that I washed it with white spirit with a little black oil color in it (I tried not use to much color). I then let it dry for a few days. It doesnt smell to nice...

Next step was to start to drybrush with dark grey/black to get even more dirtyness at some areas (go easy, less is more). I also made oil streakes using masking tape to get the lines straight. u put the tape in a straight line, then gently paint at the side of the tape, sp the paint ends up half on the tape, half beside. I use my fingers alot when doing this because it make s the lines more realistic I think.

I also also made some rustmark and streakes. For some reason I find rust to be hard because its really easy to overdo, even on the AT-AT.

My best tip is to do it little by little and walk away a while. Then come back and decide if it needs more.

I have also made new joint parts. The hip joints are now looking pretty close to the original models and is more stable and I can position the legs in any way.
