Hi guys,

As far as I know and based on my readings and researches the originals ANH stormtrooper helmets(stunt) were sprayed with white automotive paint. But was the same technique applied for the originals ESB helmets? I have been gathering pictures of ESB stormtroopers helmets lately from different forums and websites and I noticed that the white paint looks thicker, I did not see any paint drips... By any chance, could they have been brushed on painted? Thanks a lot in advance.

A

I seem to remember reading somewhere that it was enamel based paint.

Well we know the ESB helmets are reconditioned ANH helmets, but were they repainted or did they just add the new decals?

If they were repainted, then adding decals would have been easier than having to hand paint everything. As to what paint they used, it's anyones guess really, though I will say they look spray painted and not hand brushed.

If the eyes are cut bigger, then wouldnt they have to repaint them?

Good point about the decals. And why put decals if they didnt repaint? There would be no need for them.

Cheers

With the paint flaking off on several helmets... instead of just repainting those with cracked paint it would make more sense to re-paint them all to keep a consistent look.

NHM I agree with you 100% :thumbsup
Matt emailed me and he shared some thoughts and I want it to share it with you guys :"The test I have read about the ESB helmets is that they
stripped the helmets first and then sandblasted them to make the paint
stick better. I think they also had someone paint them that really
could. I think AA sprayed the helmets and when this was done, it was
done in very cold weather and the paint ran, by no fault of his own"

It also looks that some helmets were sprayed 2 or 3 times. I would love to know what Jez can share with us about it, since he had an original ESB in his hands.

Cheers
