Could you craft a dread of the diameter, length and taper that you want out of Sculpey? We could look into having it cast for you.

Nah... it'll probably end up costing more than it would cost to buy from someone making them. Just checked and there are two new players to choose from, but thanks anyway.

Here's the latest update on the bust. Have just been able to attach the right cheek and fill the seam line. Painted some of the mouth pink and reworked the teeth a little. Hope to have something to show off soon. Still waiting with getting the dreads, dread-rings and quills.

And next to my two bio helmets.

A little more progress. I think I finished off the teeth.

Still waiting for that part to my new compressor, so I can attach the hose of the airbrush and get started on painting it properly. So far I've dabbled with painting by hand. Most of what you see will be covered - was just done up to see how it'd look with some color. :thumbsup

A little more progress. Working slow as I have many other projects going on at the same time. So as not to waste paint... I painted the "white" in the eyes on many kits, thinking... hey... I've just mixed this color... shame to not use it. Did the iris work on the Pred as well... drew an outline with black marker to get an approximation of iris and pupil shape and position. Started with neon green yesterday to get a good iris base... then did a run-over with light yellow. Found an interesting yellow at my hobby shop... so going there this Monday, I think I'll pick it up and use it for the brightness factor.

Well, here's the progress.

Changed the pupil and iris part of the eye. Need to redo the outline at the edge of the iris again to accommodate the new look. Imo looks much better now, scowling. Mandible teeth just tacked on to see how it'd look. Will be removed again when I am working on the inside of the mouth.

Cheers

No, sadly no. Still haven't bought the paints I need to paint it or many of the other accessories to finish it. Did get quills though for the face. Need to drill holes and add the quill "bumps" to the sculpt before doing any more painting. It's just the thing of actually doing all these things.

It's been a long time since I gave it a re-spray of creamy yellow. I want to go even paler and more over into the greens. Someone suggested an overripe banana colour... it's just to actually hit that color when mixing paints.

Anyway, gonna rework the tusks, like I did the smaller teeth.

Finally have all the pieces, dreads, dread rings, quills and lots of paints... so... hopefully I get inspired soon to go work on it.

Will replace the pictures as soon as possible. In the meantime, here are some interviews and cool pictures from both Predator and Predator 2

Yeah, some people are just too goddamned talented. Makes me green with envy. But on the other hand... I'm so thankful they have those skills and use them, because then I have cool stuff to look at! :thumbsup

Well, got the pictures sorted. Don't mind the chaotic paint work. I was just testing for the right base color. I think I have finally found it now. It is not the color seen in the following picture, but lighter and more ripe banana colored. I think it's gonna look great when I finally start painting it correctly.

I also drilled several holes for the face quills. Need to do a lot more and the sculpt the raised bump surrounding the holes, so it looks natural. Using the reference from supposedly cast from the Stan Winston molds I will go over the bust and draw in and drill the quill holes in the right spots, so it becomes just right.

Having studied many pictures of the original Predator head I noticed that the upper teeth on the mandibles were positioned wrong. Basically... I had to switch them around so they sat on the opposite mandible, but then I had to fix the shape of the teeth, because they were sculpted to fit into their respective positions and didn't fit the other hole. That resulted in filing and then apoxie sculpting new bases for the two teeth, as well as adding more material along the sides of the teeth to make them more like the original. I'm not done with all that yet, but it's already looking better. Apoxie sculpt is difficult to work with because it's more rigid than sculpey and doesn't lay flat at the edges, but I'll get it looking right.

Positioning the teeth this way also makes it look more aggressive in my view and gives it that arrogant streak that the first Predator had in the movie.

And additionally, here is a picture of the bio helmet cast directly out of the original P1 stunt mold. A real pride and joy. I have the various greeblies to go with it such as the laser housing, the tri-laser piece and the two hose pieces. Will redo part of the upper hose piece, as some of the ribbing has unfortunately broken.

Moved forward with the painting. Started the subtle mottling. Adding a picture pre and post mottling with a slightly darker yellow color. Next time I will darken that yellow even more and do another mottling and see how it shapes up, turning it more and more brownish until the final near black mottling dots layer. The first picture is brighter due to it being photographed in my work room, whereas the second is in my living room where the light is a little softer. The difference between the colors isn't that great, but I'm going for subtle build up.
