Today we received the new e-FX Clonetrooper helmet from Attack of the Clones - and we are most certainly impressed! We managed to snap off a few photo's but will take a few more over the weekend in natural day-light. More later but this literally just dropped a few hours ago. Many thanks to the guys at e-FX for sending us this review helmet.

Following on from the Master Replicas Episode III Clonetrooper, e-FX's Episode II has exactly the same build composition and quality - Its precisely what we expected and we've not been disappointed. The finish is superb and it has a high-gloss lustre.

Image

at one stage there was talk of a separate "neck ring" to go under the base of the helmet, but for whatever reason this hasn't happened. However when on display it isn't really noticeable, and it complements the MR RotS Clone helmet well.

Image

...note the rear LED, powered by a couple of AAA's. Nice touch!

Image

So no unexpected surprises. Just a damn fine looking collectible helmet.
If you've sitting on the fence on this one, jump. You wont be disappointed!

Image

Its got the same velour-lined interior as the MR (and e-FX) helmets. Its glossy, fantastic and I love it.

More info on http://www.StarWarsHelmets.com. The archive of helmets and Costumes from the Star Wars Galaxy.

Cheers

Jez

Thanks Jez, nice review and great pics. :thumbsup

I think it's perfect for costumers. A nice interpretation, but by no means a replica.
eFX focussed on wearability instead of accuracy. Understandable, but nevertheless disappointing.

Note sure of release - I presume sometime over the next few weeks

SWC - I have to say that the OT stuff is not my forte as is not a major point of interest to me - but I really do like this helmet as it complements the MR/e-FX Ep3 Clone and Stormy lids. I'm actually tempted to get an all-white ep3 clone now

So what are the faults with this helmet - any photo comparisons?

Cheers

Jez

I think there was an indepth review at one of the trooper forums that pretty much listed all the discrepancies with this cast from the CGI render. I'll see if I can find it again.

That might be the only reason for me to buy it anyway... :lol

A few weeks ago CGClone posted this list. (I hope you don't mind CGC)

CGClone wrote:
The parts that bother me right now as it stands, taken from the digital files or not - that simply dont match up well to screen are:
1) The hole in the "ear" column. Its to low and too small, misplaced.
2) The dome is too round on top. It has a more elongated elegance, its not as purely round as it seems.
3) The line/outer ridge the happens right under ear column is too bulbous
4) The ridge underneath that is too soft. Should be a sharper angle.
5) The ear column protruding into the flat cheek is too deep, not much, but more than it should be.
6) The corners of the T-visors are not round, only rounded on the bottom, the top of that corner should be much more angular.
7) The visor is set wayyy to back, its actually almost more on top.
8) The t-visor part where it curves down to the nose needs to be a touch sharper
9) The back channel that is under the round protrusion (you dont see it on the efx promo pic, its on the back of the helmet) is too wide.
10) The square dots on the back of that protrusion are off center, outwardly, they should be centered.
11) That cheek curve indention just under the t-visor caves in some, should be flat.
12) The continuation behind the ear column near the near of the helmet, it bends inward, it should be straight up and down.

Now I know theres some of this due to laying in the resin and thick fiberglass, etc from production, but most of it is not.
I am just stating what I see. Some may not agree, just sharing.

Right here, in your own backyard.... :lol

(sorry for the OT Jez)

So, how does it compare to the MR EP III Clone helmet size wise?

Here's a good pic form Rebelscum with it side by side with a clone. I dont have an all-white clone and it looked naff against the red shocktrooper I have.

Image

Yeah I saw that comment before on the accuracy of the e-FX and it looked like good work. However for a comparison I would have expected to see the "real" one also shown - otherwise its a case of "this bit needs to be different" without showing what its supposed to look like. If you get my drift.

Cheers

Jez

You're absolutely right. Come on people, we need some HD EP II screencaps for comparison. Anyone?

SWC - I'm pretty sure Lucasfilm did a series of Marketing/promo data DVD's with loads of "photos" of the CG troopers on them. They were sent to various media outlets and also used for companies producing licensing tie-in's (like McDonalds, Calender Co' etc.) .

Thats the best resource . IMO the quality of screen-grabs (even HD's) are not good enough to do the kind of comparisons that prompted the list of errors shown before. Some of the hardcore clone guys should have a copy

Cheers

Jez
