While I love the idea of the concept helmets I'm rather surprised EFX feels that there's a mass market for them. Any idea what the edition size/pricing is going to be? I guess I could see doing a run of 500 or so based on the kind of sales they generate in the "garage market". There has to be at least that many crazy people like us in the world to buy one of these. I'm still trying to decide if I'd like a concept helmet in my collection or just have enlargements of the drawings (if I do go with one it'll probably be Darth Stones).

I'm still crossing my fingers for a definitive ANH casting (cue Thomas).

Dave

A bit of an old topic, but was just wondering if there was any new news.

Latest I heard was that the McQuarrie Vader would still be "pre Xmas".

AFAIK there are no concrete plans to do and OT (or PT) Vader so IMO it'll be 2010 at the earliest before they could. I think theyve been sniffing around some provenant face plates and domes but its not gone any further. 2010 would be nice for a 30th Anniversary ESB.

Cheers

Jez

Thanks for the update.

Besides Vader, has there been any whispers of other helmets, such as the Scout and Royal Guard, etc?

Museum Replicas talked about doing whole costumes and no individual parts (still no updates on their site, though), so for a helmet collector I guess eFx is my best bet for something in that department!?

Not heard anything about either of those two, but personally I'd love to see a really accurate Biker scout (although the Altmann's is really nice)

They just sent me the new AotC Clone helmet today so I've stuck a 1st review up. Looks great imo.

Cheers

Jez

Wow, if they're "sniffing" I'd be so curious as to what their plans are - ANH, ESB, Jedi, or an idealized OT helmet?

Hmm.

It's a good question. LFL certainly has this:

The mask in the above screen caps is certainly very smooth, and possibly has been sanded since it was cast, so it may or may not be reflective of the condition of the mold.

Don't think it was sanded. If the source is smooth, then the replica would be too, imo.

So regarding LFL-allowed OT helmets, I have the following thoughts to contribute. LFL has the mold that Don Post Studios had used for their Deluxe line, and now that has become the Rubie's Fiberglass Limited Edition Vader. We all know the soft level of detail of that particular mold. The exception to this mold is the Rubie's Statue, produced for them by Michael Burnett Productions, but I don't have good enough shots to compare the mask Ivo's holding with the Rubie's Statue mask.

Ironically, though, both are ROTJ though Don Post marketed their helmet has ESB. Rubie's is a current licensee, so if I understand how LFL Marketing works, they try to not have licensees have overlapping and directly competing products. The only way for eFX to be perfectly non-competitive is to have an ANH - a mold (specifically for licensees) which LFL does not have. Someone would have to back-engineer it. If eFX is reading this, please contact me - I'd love the job. :thumbsup

Who say LFL doesn't have access to an ANH mold?

Also... I think your "applying for a job" at eFX would be heard more if posted on the RPF or if you applied directly through their company! :cheers :blah

Oh wait, that's right....!

Sorry, guys, the regular super strong brews of two cups of tea doesn't appear to be enough caffeine to affect me any more. Blast. :wtf
