LOL... just ask the questions, silly man... instead of jacking up your post count! :blah

Aw come on, man, I didn't want him to feel the follow-up questions were the point, as I'm building up something here. Throw me a lightsaber here! :toothy

Brian,

Thanks for the answer on NHM's post. Just so that I understand....

When I blow up this grainy and small pic and correct for some noise, I get this:

Image

If I were to mark the "U" on the left in red and the line coming from over the shoulder to Kermit's right side of the face, the photo looks this way....

Image

... however, you're saying that it's more like this (note the purple line)

Image

I notice the over-the-shoulder arch of the black area has a slight stepped deformation which suggests the purple line marks the end of a beveled surface. I exaggerated the bevel on the "horizon" to illustrate it more clearly. Would this have been how you made the armor?

Hi Mac,

Looking again at the photos the lines don't look right to me - I need to look at some screen originals

Your input is much appreciated. To think to get the answers directly from the man who created the sculpts... it just feels kinda unprecedented in my time in the hobby. It's beyond awesome. :cheers

This one's interesting...

Image

And so that we know the context of the lighting placement:

Image

As I look at the outer line of the right "U", there is a dark area at the end of the line that looks like it's curving inwards. It's almost as if the right ridge is starting to fade off while widening to create that curve.

Thanks Mac for the screen capture.

The lines are as you've marked in red except the top of the longer line does not round in - originally it was all one plane and I marked the lines on the clay and carved the clay away to form the lines. At the top where the lines begin it does not round over it just gives that appearance because a pocket is created from rounding it in to that one point.

Just to reiterate the form is rounded down at the top but there is no curve of the line.

I hope this explains it - it's hard to put it into words.

Brian

Okay... so the U edges/lines stop and plane out into the rest of the armor. The lines don't continue up to the neck and up above the shoulders as I illustrated, then!?

Based on how NHM described it just now, is in effect what you had sculpted? Please pardon the simplistic and exaggerated illustration.

Hi Mac,

Your illustration shows the line and the return down is at 90 degress as you have it - it is not a flat ground from one side to the other (meaning the area in the centre of the lines )but curved. It is curved in at the top which gives the illusion of the line turning in

I don't know if your graphic skills allow for that type of illustration.
