I took possession of a beautiful T*E ABS helmet this afternoon. I immediately rushed to set it next to my Shepperton Battle Spec and snap some comps.
It really shows how flat-faced the SDS is, doesn't it? The T*E undeniably has the "look" that the battle spec doesn't. The sds is squatty!
Overall I am very happy with the T*E abs. Other than some slight imperfections (thin, wrinkling plastic on the left front, low, the "ghosted" rear left trap) it is quite lovely =)

Dang, that is a nice looking helmet. Are the details on the TE hand painted?

thanks very much gents. Yes the details are hand painted. I should mention I sold my recently built AP to purchase this bad boy. And now having compared the abs T*E to my old AP I can now comment the quality of the abs, as well...
The T*E is a very very nice composition of abs: no bluish hue and very shiny. I have since polished the helmet up with high gloss liquid car wax and it shines BRILLIANTLY. It gives acrylic-capped abs a run for its money. And the white hue is beautifully neutral: not blue, not yellow. It is .060 guage, which is strong, yet makes the bucket extremely light.

And....those eyes, people...stare into those eyes! Those are the eyes of pure evil staring at you!

LOL

Nice acquisition crow. Considering that the SDS helmet is a battle spec it still surprisingly has a lot of similarities to the TE. I would like to see pics of the TE next to an SDS 'Stunt' helmet if you have one. Again, love the TE helmet and nice photos!

Wow.

This is interesting. The chin and "spine" of the faceplate on the SDS looks as though it's been pulled out. The T*E has a much more natural angle to it, and the first 1.5" of the forehead appear to run parallel with the spine of the face.

Also, after studying some of the photos of the screen-used helmets, I noticed that the helmet's side buldges on the left tend to be slightly more pronounced, whereas on the SDS products the right side buldge is more pronounced.

LOL I'm not sure about the bulges, but I think this is what he means on the spine/ angle stuff:

Image

The spine angle in profile is parallel to the first few inches of the forehead angle. And what's crazy is, I already adjusted the SDS faceplate once to help correct that!

another random shot:

Oh wait! I think I know what he's talkin about with the bulges. In the profile shot above you can see it...big bulge on the T*E in the lower tube structure, just in front of the ear assembly. It's missing on the SDS.

Very good illustration of what I was talking about.

Notice the bevel between the eyes and the rest of the face. It looks like it's sticking out more, so when you have that combined with the under bite of the SDS's chin, you get a more "V" profile.

I had also posted this a while back too.

Scott that is a lovely aquisition, congrats. Ref the battle spec i thought everyone new that AA adjusted his molds for that lid to tidy it up a bit and make it more symetrical?

Ive been thinking of picking up one of the abs lids from Matt, or get another hdpe im not sure which yet...

Oh yes...I knew AA reworked the BS (horrible acronym for battle spec!). Another thing on the BS is--as seen on that profile shot--the lid looks a bit like frankenstein. Compared to the t*e you can realllly see it.

I love comp pics! I'd love to comp it with an SDS stunt, but alas, I'm without one. :(
