Hi all

Here's a photo I found a while ago. Maybe it's a printing glitch somehow, or a trick of the light but his teardrop seems to be painted rather oddly. Also, looks like there's a snazzy zig-zag motif thing going on, on that handguard! (what's up with that I wonder?) ..

Wow, cool pic Jeremy!

Just when I thought I'd seen *every* 'behind the scenes' Stormtrooper pic, along you come with this!

My guess on the trooper's left-hand-side handguard is that the paint has simply been scraped off in this pattern by accident... perhaps got caught on the forearm armour. What's more interesting is the trooper's right-hand-side handguard, which appears to either be missing (leaving glue residue behind) or it is one of the infamous Sandtrooper cheesgrater handguards from Tunisia (ie. improvised duct-tape  )

And the tear decal area.... weirrrrddd....
Maybe it's a partially-painted Stormtrooper tear, on a Sandtrooper helmet that's just returned from Tunisia. ie. the costume dept. have painted a big square of black, which when dry, they will paint the grey areas in between.... forming lines in the process? I know that's easier than painting a grey background and then painting skinny black lines on top :rolleyes

Either way, it's a helluva nice find.... thanks for sharing :)

Cheers,
John

awesome pic!!!
hey weren't the white parts of the hand armor actually white rubber in ANH? Looks like a bizarre little scribble on that troopers hand...

Fantastic! Where the hell did that pic come from?

Looks like it could be modded sandtrooper....it appears to be missing the shoulder straps and that hand plate does look like the cheesegrater version from here.

We need more of these rare pics...I'm sure there are many more that were printed back in the day that have been forgotton about.

Great find and thanks for sharing Jeremy :thumbsup

They were latex, which cures naturally to a dark honey-brown colour.... then painted white. So they weren't made from 'white rubber' is you see what I mean :)

My guess is, when the paint scrapes off, and the handguard is photographed in Black & White, then the latex underneath looks even darker. Check out ANH and you'll see some great big patches of missing / worn paint on the handguards in ANH.

Definitely an interesting photo, and I'd love to know the story behind the teardrops...

Cheers,
John

Thanks guys!

- Sorry, I completely forgot to say where the photo came from! it's from my monthly BECTU union magazine called; 'Stage Screen and Radio', this pic's in the Feb 08 issue. It's printed highlighting a brief plea amongst members for any archival photos or film they may have connected to Elstree studios for a potential BBC documentary..

I pressume so. As you know, they are some theories of what they are, but I would say they are rubber/latex just like the regular 'T' backs.
