That was molded and cast from a helmet at the time of production, so is a new cast.

Wonder why they didn't just use some of the old molds they had, if they were still workable?

Probably just grabbed what was available or the original nuts broke off and they just used screws or whatever other combination. Your guess is as good as anyones. Seeing that it is an area no one would see, I don't think they cared.
