Hi everyone,

Does anyone know the correct measurements (height, shoulders, chest etc..) of David Prowse when he was in the Vader suit?

Oh, and another thing; has anyone ever ordered something from the Ebay seller customsprops? He sells capes, robes, suits etc..

To address the eBay seller first. No, sorry, don't know the guy or his quality. Hopefully someone can chime in.

You're welcome. I've had these two measurement charts saved ever since they were posted on the RPF... can't remember by whom though.

18 1/2 on the neck, hmmm. I would imagine that the original faceplate would have to be a bit wide (neck area) to comfortably accomodate Prowses' neck.

I have an 18 inch neck and I think that most of the Vaders out there even though off in some way are pretty close.....and I'm talking the upper scale fan mades and the DPD.

Yeah, I'm thinking along the lines that if the original had some sort of padding, a wider neck would seem more comfortable. Of all the helmets I own, they pretty much fit well, but I only have a 17" neck.

Hi,

cant believe that these was really his measurements. He was 42 years old during SW ANH. Not in that form he has years ago during his body building career. I have a screen sized suit and my mannequin has a chest (without bulking up) with 32". And i dont think that there is so much room in the suit to get a 50" chest. And what is with the suit Kermit Eller has worn. It was a screen used one and it fits perfect, although he never has that muscles David Prowse has had. So whats with all that finished ANH Vaders in this forums. How did you bulked up your mannequins and did they really have these dimensions from that measurement list?

I seem to remember that Kermit was a rather large guy himself. Not to Prowse scale by any means though. There were also a series of straps and buckles on the back of the suit that are used to tailor fit the suit over the body. The straps help the fit quite bit.

:cheers

Have seen some pics of Dave in comparison to other actors and he is not so muscular like many think. Some of the "official" measurements are totaly wrong. :cheers

Oh hey! Those are measurements from a binder at ILM - the binder page is labeled Darth Vader, not Dave Prowse. I don't know what the difference is but it is the character guidelines.

These confuse me a little bit. Where exactly are these measurements taken on the body?

I'm going to say that the chest measurement is nipple level, upper is probably midlevel of the pec and under is obviously below the pec, but above the abs.

Some people can't get how big bodybuilders are.
He is lets say 6 foot 5 inches so a 50" chest on him is not as big as you would think and with a 38" waist the drop would only be 12" The illusion is with a waist that big he would not look as large except when you put him next to a normal person.. 18" arms are not that large also. 18.5 inch neck not that big for a guy 6 foot 5 or so.
I am only 5 foot 11inches and in my best shape I had a 48" chest I had A 32" waist and 19" arms and my neck was 18" I was not the largest around by any stretch.
Those measurements are very realistic for a bodybuilder /powerlifter.
In fact his arms are kinda small for a man that large.
