Ok since mostly everyone was watching this one, your thoughts? Congrats to whoever picked it up. Anyone here?

Soo, what is the best guess on the source of this helmet?

I don't know who won but they beat me out at the last second.

I stopped myself as I saw the numbers go from $375 to $1,300 and finally $6,360 in a matter of seconds. :lol Oh well, congrats anyway.

I have serious reservations about this helmet being authentic.
Without seeing better, more close up photos, that's a huge $6000 risk.
Even in those far shots, there are things on the facemask that are different than a true studio cast.

I think Thomas won it - cue threads about how big his helmet is...

From the photos it appears as though the chin vent is smooth - no tabs either, removed at some point maybe?

I hope it's the real deal for his sake.

If its from THE ORIGINAL 77 MOULD, then there wouldn't be any tabs, nor grills in the casting.. they were added after.

Absolutely crazy.

The winning bidder must either be an absolute expert to judge it just from the ebay pics and description (maybe he had more background information than the other bidders) or he is a real gambler.

I have a strange feeling about this.

I think I can see remnants of tabs - like they were sanded.
I thought the faceplate looked like the VP.
Thomas (Sithlord) was definitely the winner of the auction - his bid history has the original Vader photo that he won at Christmas .

Congratulations Thomas...

A few of us were watching this but we had reservations, much like Gino said.

I'm sure we would be interested to hear what you say once you get it in your hands  .

Yes the faceplate had several tells of a VP, which was my initial belief. The dome did nothing for me and was my main area of concern, much more than the faceplate. The faceplate did appear to have the tabs ground off on top and had similar markings on the mouth walls that matched the VP. If the faceplate turns out to be the real deal then that's fantastic for the buyer. As it's been stated before, based on those photos and vague description that was a huge gamble, hopefully it pays off in the end.

Hi

I had a bid on it and ran in third which was effectively a mile away :)

Funny even though the pic were from poor angles and loads of lens distortion the dome was the most convincing part for me due to the sharpness of the lines and overall shape.

If the faceplate is the real deal then you have to think they both will be.

Congratulations to who ever won it and I truly hope it is what you wanted.

Cheers Chris

Hmmmm? Not sure about this one either..
If it does indeed have the signs of tabs sanded off
then someone got screwed..

I hope the new owner posts some better pics of it
here when it arrives..

I could be wrong, but it looks like screw holes, not ground down tabs. Maybe it had functional tabs at one point? Just speculation.
