I'll bet this is one of those things that is sure to get you into trouble but I have to ask.
I am looking for accurate ANH Vader tusks. And no this is not really a "WTB" thread. There is already one of those going.

This is hoping for a disscussion of what is accurate and are they obtainable?

What do you pros use?

Can anyone confirm if the one on the left is indeed an authentic cast?
Where can I get a fanmade set that is exact?

Meaning the fanmade one on the right correct? Or are you saying the left one is no good too?

I am not happy with any fanmade ones I've yet seen. But I need to know what a real one looks like first.

Here is a line up (I dont know whos) of different makers.

Are any of them close? *excluding the ROTJ one as this is about ANH tusks.

Credit to darthvaderv for the image.

That's my image

I have a collection of tusks. Currently the JB ones are close but not an exact match. The Russ ones are also a good fit but again not a match. I believe Alan is working on a new set in mind. I have a custom set which I am doing myself but have not completed.

The main problem with the tusks is there are not enough clear images in public to determine what the crystal clear details are for the most part.

I know there are now higher quality of images slowly being obtained that may help clarify things. These images are much clearer than DK's HD photo's.

I think for now it depends how accurate you want them to be as there is nothing 100% accurate to buy currently. So it is a case of doing a custom job, either from scratch or if it's for your own use, modifying an exsisting piece that looks close. Sorry it's one of those things where there is no quick fix unfortunately, it took me a while to learn the hard way.

I still don't know why people have the knurled / ridged base!

I've never seen that on an ANH.

The closest out there right now are the "JB" tusks. I recently had some accurate tusks quoted out, but the quote came back at around $30-$50US each. I have a set of the "JB" tusks from the original source.

Yup, that's a good shot with the little ridges.

Here are some reference screencaps.

Thanks for the info guys. Good stuff. But is the so called "authentic casting" in that picture actually authentic? I'm guessing not by peoples reactions.

Darthvaderv, can you elaborate on these images slowly being obtained?

New HD pictures in a higher res and bigger files than Darth Kahnt's and others are slowly being obtained by some, perhaps this is not news to others? I think this will eventually be public at some time in the future just as the initial release of HD screen caps were. This should help in a big way.

Yes there are definitely ridges. Alan's are nice but the base is too tall. Most of them don't get the tapering correct either on the base or crown, or the stem diameter is not correct. The crown to stem thickness is off on JB's as well. The ones pictured in the first post are definitely not accurate, especially the claimed to be cast from an original. It might as well have come from a DP deluxe. The biggest trick is getting the number/type of ridges correct.

I'd have to agree that, from what I can see, the JB's are the closest at the moment. If FatherlessOne made the knurled base thinner on his and slightly increased the tooth size of the knurls I think his would be pretty close too. I have a set from Fatherless and then another set similar to the Modified tusk in Darthvaderv's pic.
