I have a few questions about the Tie helmets. How many paint variation was there? Where they all black in ANH or did they have the grey highlights? I was thinking of adding some gray highlights to my Fang helmet but not sure which ones to do.Who out there makes the most accurate Tie helmet?

Heres the paint variations I know of..I had these saved on my computer from somewhere..as far as acuracy I guess the SDS would be the most acurate..I have heard some say the Laws kit is, but it doesnt look right to me ( the forehead looks to tall).personally, I have a Fang and LOVE it! ( I do wish I filled the little rectangles before painting, though! :) )

Wow. Thanks, that is so awesome. Just what I was looking for. It almost looks like in the first pic the ears are gray too. What do you think? Thanks again :)

Actually, most people don't realize this, but there were hero and background tie and x-wing helmets just like the trooper helmets.

The hero tie's and x-wing helmets were the ones meant for close up cockpit shots.
The x-wings are the same helmet but with a yellow visor (so you could see the actor's face) and extra detailing.
The ties are the same, just with some silver paint detailing.

Good to know :) So the hero Ties had the highlights. Were the highlights grey or silver?

Hi DF, got the pm

IMO its most likely the same silver/grey as used on the ANH Vader helmet.

I think they completed the helmets but then when they got to the set for lighting tests they realised both the Vader and TIE helmets were just too "flat" in appearance hence they added the silver highlighting. I'm not saying this was done at the same time (as Vader's initial interiors were well before any TIES), but what they learved for Vader they used o the TIE's.

IMO it would make sense that they used the same paint as the Vader.

Cheers

Jez

Thanks Jez, That makes a lot of sense to use the same silver and the Vader helmet.

Cheers Chris.

My vote is on it being painted grey, however, I don't know for sure.
