It lacks the surface and line definition of traditional antique Japanese masks.

$3,500 is roughly the price of Samurai armor made in Japan (not the cheap crap from China).

Personally, I don't like the look. I feel it looks sloppy. The nose has become too small. And in trying to retain traditional Japanese flavors, the mask looks melted, and the Vader aspects look too robotic.

If you do a search for "mempo" (mask) or "kabuto" (helmet) Google, you'll see what the originals looked like. The masks (mempo) look a lot different than Vader. I was hoping they would be able to express Vader with more of a traditional look.

What's interesting is that the concept sketch had flavors of old Japanese 2D art. Even when you look at Samurai woodblock prints, they may emulate the look of the real deal, but the style has to be re-interpreted to adapt to 3D. I think this is where it failed. I think the drawing was magnificent.
