Reading that thread on the rpf about the size of the rocker switches and the fact that they were made from timber, has inspired me to make some.

If anybody could share what sort of timber they were and which way the grain goes I could make up a batch.
The only measurement that is missing is the height of the center crease.

Height is approx 0.207 inches. It's tough to get that one, but the measurement is close enough.. The grain goes in a vertical formation. I don't know the type of wood used, sorry. Hope to see a set soon.

Thanks Darth Karo,

I was planning on machining the profile in long lenghts and then cutting them off on a dropsaw with a stop set at the correct widths.
This may run the grain the wrong way if the grain does run vertically.
where would be the most likely place that the rocker switches were made?
I could use a common timber to the location and time.
They will be cheap as chips to make and as long as the dimensions are correct, they will look great.
I will not charge any money for a set of these or shipping for those who want them. So any input now would be appreciated before I start them,
Mike

Mike I believe they were made in the UK around 1976 as most vader parts, if not all, were made there at the time. I'd certainly love a set!! Hopefully someone can chime in with the correct wood used (crosses fingers).

I actually already went through the trouble to have them made using my cast off original box. It was a total pain finding the right wood, the right spacing of grain layers, and getting the orientation right. I still have some sets left for those interested. Send me an email instead of a pm.

Sure guys there are a few sets ready now but the rest will be ready very soon.
I had them machined to the exact sizes given, out of 2 different types of timber. Both worked out great and the sizes are spot on.
Thanks to Darth Karo for your interest and help in this exercise.
Send me your mailing addresses to cookman00@bigpond.com.au
Thanks Mike

Yes kraam, I painted them first. They are actually not fixed on in those photos as I am waiting for a new resin base.
All the other parts are russrep apart from the switches.
The resin ones that most are using don't have the correct angles and it makes a chestbox look off. I have studied heaps of photos of the box and the angles on these timber ones look right.
