I was looking over a few images of the Funeral Pyre helmet and determined that it came from the Rick Baker mold. That makes it a brother to the DJ, MP and SL. Kinda cool...

The question is, why would they use that mold instead of just using one of the ROTJ Vader helmets? When was the pyre scene filmed in the production? Maybe it was early on and they didn't have anything else apart from left over ESB helmets they were planning to modify or mold?

Anyway, kind of interesting...I've posted the question on RPF to see if Don can shed some light on it...

I always heard that the funeral scene was shot very last minute at Skywalker Ranch and added to the film quickly before it was released.

Well, another interesting facet to that mask and dome / helmet is that it clearly has been
Worn before (either on screen, or for promo work) as you can see the straps.

Ahhh that would make perfect sense then....thanks Corbadda!

The MP helmet (the one in the ESB movie poster that is also ANH and almost likely also from the Rick Baker mold) seems to be made of the same materials as the pyre helmet and as someone mentioned in another thread about the pyre helmet, it has the same helmet mounting mechanism as the movie poster helmet. The movie poster helmet was from 1979 or thereabouts, so possibly the pyre helmet was just left over in the archives and they decided to burn it at the last minute.

Makes sense that it would be from the "Baker" mold, but are the tusktube undercuts filled in on the funeral pyre helmet?
