It seems that the Don Post master they acquired back in '77 is coming up for auction. Most interesting. Would be interesting to see if it is from the UK or US mold or perhaps even one of the three/four casts from the original production mold. What was the history again?

Here's the post on the RPF: http://www.therpf.com/f45/pih-productio ... on-101057/

Sounds as though this was used as a model for the standard Don Post helmet. Wonder if it later had anything to do with the DPDLX?

They may have looked at it when doing the standard, but from past recounts of the Don Post story, then it can be speculated that it is more likely they sculpted the standard helmet while waiting for this cast to arrive.

From the discussion over on the RPF it is now clear that it is likely a cast from the Rick Baker mold that was made either at the end of production as some claim or after production for tour purposes. This means that it is related to the SL and the DJ and the new eFX helmet.

Some details on the cast may also suggest that it is the master that was used to create the GH/Fyberdyne family of helmets, that has been reported to have originated from DP as from a production concept to possibly bring out a full scale Don Post ANH helmet back in the day, but deciding to just do the DP Standard at the time.

This helmet has nothing to do with the DP DLX or CA. It is more likely those were molded from a RotJ tour helmet or something similar.

I'd give real money to see the other side view.

Could be caused by the flash. Some give off a bluish tint.

But definitely worth figuring out for sure, as that really would be an odd choice.

Thanks for the heads up :salut

So did it not meet reserve? or were there other issues? Just curious to know as I noticed some of the auction items appeared to be getting very good money.

It was reported on the RPF that there was a bid, but it didn't meet the reserve.

Did not sell last I heard. And from such a "reputable" source, too. The price just wasn't right, in this day and age. 6 or 7 years ago he would have probably gotten his asking price.
