Yes I do like that detail change. But the overall shape is so simplified and such a departure from the OT I have to agree with Turrican's assessment. It looks like pug dog face. Nose pushed up too high, face tilted too much. Frown too small, truncated, even compared to the Hero helmet. And the symmetry... ughh. The output of a CAD program, not from the hands of a sculptor.

But what really chaps my hide is when the speaker shows the archive helmet describing it thusly: "crude form...lumpy... a simple approximation of what the original design was supposed to be..." Them's fightin' words! It echoes the same rationaization for the ROTS Vader redesign, and we know how popular that was. If it ain't broke don't fix it! Just clean it up, apply some spit and polish. Maybe change a few details, but keep the same shape.

For the record here's the original Stormtrooper design sculpture. Now which one looks like a simple approximation, OT or R1? I rest my case, your honor.

I'd like to make an adjustment to this oft used popular piece of proverb. "If ain't broke, don't break it"

Carry on.

Since the design looked like a toy, it's not surprising Hasbro was able to mass produce it as a toy and get the look pretty close. About the only significant difference I see is the tubes of the vocoder aren't set off from Hasbro helmet as they are in the screen R1 helmet. That, and whether the lenses will be green as shown on the box or gray.

Why the space for the battery outside?

That lower cut out at the rear would be my guess where the batteries would go. This definitely has lots of gaps, just not where we expect them to be! Looks good from the front though. Design for Manufacturing.
