.... i.e. something you could trim a vader mask with - but I can't find anything! Is this basically where air saws come in - is that my only option?

You can use a dremel or a vibro saw. Vibro saws are what is used in the prop industry to cut fibreglass.

That's really useful thanks. I was starting to think there wasn't anything and the easiest thing would be to get the hacksaw out...

Not come across vibro saws before. How are they in terms of dust and mess? One problem I find with the dremmell is that they through up an awful lot of dust. Is there any brand you would recommend or are they all much of a muchness?

As the vibro saws dont rotate to cut the dust is much less as it doesn't kick it up in the air....... I have a Bosch one as you can get them on pretty much all the DIY stores but the other medical ones are better but harder to find and probably a lot more expensive. You can pay anything from £50 to hundreds over here depending on brand.

Cool, I'll get one ordered and thanks for the help. I'd skipped over these because from the photos I'd just assumed they were rotary which I was avoiding becasue of the mess and ability to precisely control them but these seem perfect. Hoping the blades last through more than one piece of fibreglass though!

Vibro-saws are cool, specially the ones that were used to cut down greel trees. However, some individuals such as Xenon Nnaksta used them as close-combat weapons. It was also used to breach hulls during boarding actions by military and pirate forces, so a good all-rounder really. I'd of used one on the Tantive personally but, ya know - some dark lords love to cause a scene.

Ok thanks again for the tip. Went with the bosch one and after using it for an hour or two it's excellent. Cuts through fibreglass like butter and all the dust pretty much goes to the floor rather than airborne. Better than what I was looking for (if that makes sense!) although at the moment the first job is doing some decorating so the missus has me cutting floorboards with it...
