Its just one of many, many recasts of authentic casts which will be offered on ebay in the nearer future....regardless if its a 20th century, an eFX, a TM or somewhat else. Sad but true :pale

Actually I think with the eFX coming out, the chances of other castings being recast and sold will be lessened somewhat as there will be readily available material to make all sorts of recast helmets. Also I think we've been pretty lucky in terms of the major authentic casts not having been recast (except for one instance I believe occurred but which I'll not go into detail)...knock on wood. I guess it will make my job more interesting as I'm sure there will be more castings to examine with false claims of authenticity stemming from the eFX... :slp

I just got this back from the guy running the auction.

I forwarded your message to the owner and all he would confirm was that it is definitely not derivitive of a 20th. He didn't mention any other cast you referred to

"RARE EPISODE IV DARTH VADER FACE CAST REPLICA OFFERED FROM A PRIVATE COLLECTORS MASTER."

I'm sure that it is a recast that will pop up from time to time from the same seller. Can't really tell from the photos, but the roundness of the head is very similar to my 20th C. But again, can't tell anything for certain without holding the casting in my hands.

And no, I have no plans on bidding either.

I may change my mind on bidding. I have been studying this casting and am seeing some interesting things in it. There are a few hints to a 20th C of things that are not on anything else. And it reminds me allot of a casting that I sell that my ANH is based on, but with a modded neck line.

There is a dimple on Vaders left temple area that matches right up with even my 20th C castings.

So someone has recast your ANH offering and added lenses to the mix? I do see a lot of similarities with yours based on the pics you've shown DS. These guys know no bounds.

Yea, I am just thrilled about the idea of it could very well be mine. I have sold many of these and could only maybe narrow it down to 5 possibilities of who it could be if this is in fact a recast.

I have a backer willing to bank roll me in this auction. I am going to try and win this thing and do a side by side comparison of the ebay one next to the master casting shown in the pics above. If it does end up in my hands and it is proven that it is a recast I will threaten the seller of red feedback unless I am told of this mystery donors identity.

Either way it will likely find its way back on the auction block after I'm done with it, (if I win it that is).

Got outbid. $425.00 was all that I could see giving the fella. Maybe the new owner will share it on here or the RPF. Unless the owner is Makerofthings and it is a bogus win. :fight

$430 for that piece of shit? Seriously... the look, detail and quality only warrants $100 or less. And seeing as it is likely a recast... and even a poor one at that... it's a complete waste of money.

Personally, it looks like a recast of the MovieFX Vader.

Shortly after the end of the auction I sent the seller a message, although I doubt I will see a reply. My ebay ID is a pretty good clue as to who I am on there, and I bid on the piece with more than 4 hours left in the auction. I told him/her that the next auction of one of these casting will be bid on by one of my friends and that sooner or later if they keep selling them I will have a copy in my hands.

I will be watching the feedback left for others, as well as feedback left for the seller. If this was a legit sale some evidence will show up. However I fully believe that the donor of this piece is in fact the high bidder in an attempt to 'cancel' the auction. Most bidding now days goes up 5.00 at a time. Nobody that is willing to lay down more than $400.00 would do so without some knowledge of the history of the piece, or at least some better photos. That was my logic anyway.

I have, I feel, been pretty calm about all of this so far. But I do want to finish this post with some carefully selected words that I do hope will get back to the seller and donor of this faceplate.

Hi Kent,
It was actually me that won the auction and I had no idea I was going to have to bid that much thinking I was the only bidder. I had asked here if anyone was going to bid and everyone said NO. So I set my auctionsniper to bid just before the auction ended and went to bed. I woke in the morning and saw I had been bid up to the tune of $430.00 !
I then saw in my emails all the notifications of posts here and checked them out to find that you had changed your mind and bid.
Anyway you can rest assure that it isn't a scam and although it's cost me a he'll of a lot more we will get to the bottom of this. I have one if your ANH Castings to compare it with. I'll post pics up when it arrives. It's not being posted to me until the 10th as the seller is away and can't get to the post office before then.

Thanks for posting that up, I at least now know that it was a real sale. Sorry that you had to pay so much, but that is what you get for using a "auctionsniper". Sorry, I don't mean to sound rude or disrespectful. I'm not sure that I would not have done the same thing myself. And actually I should thank you because now I don't have to pay back my buddy if I had won.

Looking forward to seeing what you have and what you find out about this casting. :cheers

Unfortunately the time difference between here and the US doesn't work for sitting up bidding on eBay. I have a daytime job and I'm a father so sitting up all night ain't an option. No hard feelings. If it wasn't you it would have been someone else.

Please don't take my words as anything other than being un-nerved by this whole ordeal. Nothing personal here either. And I do truly hope that this is in fact not a recast, but something of value to you.

Life really is to short to be worried about such things, and I just need to get over it.
