No pressure pot, sadly. But I do have some silicone that's meant to brush on for the first layer, so I'll try that.

Do you have a pressure pot rig? Degassing the rubber and then curing inside a pot should help with bubbles. If not, then brushing on a first thin layer of rubber and waiting for a few bubbles to break should help too. |

Working on sculpting the leather suit. I'm doing a few tests in Super Sculpey first to see if I can work fast enough to perhaps do it with Apoxie Sculpt. I've been working on the legs on the ESB statue and will post progress pictures soon. I may also just try and mold the Super Sculpey sculpt without heating it to harden it. We'll see how to proceed when I get to that point. |

Sculpting test! Trying to sculpt Vader's leather suit is damn hard. There are folds, there are wrinkles and there are sewn lines and all have to be there and not diminish the folds. The spacing on the sewn lines are too wide in this early attempt and are corrected in a future attempts, and I will have it follow the contours more instead of being so straight   I am still too scared and take too long to try sculpting it in the self-hardening Apoxie Sculpt, but I'll keep plugging away at it. If it ends up being done in super sculpey, then I'll have to mold and cast it onto the body. Or maybe cast it thinly, as a shell, so things remain separate. Afterwards, in the same evening I sculpted a test on his left leg as well. Much more pleased with the look. Not hitting the material as hard as before made the wrinkles look more like they should and not too puffy and the closer spacing between the sewn lines looks better. I was so fast with this that I think with a little more practice I might even be able to do it with Apoxie Sculpt. However, I'll have to test sculpt with Apoxie Sculpt on something unrelated first, since the two materials doesn't exactly work the same when sculpting with it.  Then I redid the right leg with the less puffy look and narrower sewn lines. Looks much better. Shapes look a little extreme because of the shadows. Tried taking a picture of it out of direct sunlight, but it didn't turn out so great.  The two last pictures shows revisions after some feedback. Made the ribs thinner, as well as a little bit straighter from top to bottom, following the reference more. I am still uncertain whether I should go costume accurate or in-universe accurate - for ESB that means regular fabric for the rear section of the legs and not ribbed leather.   The question simply is: does it look convincing as leather fabric? |

I saw something that reminded your 1:6 project. It's the RogueOne Darth Vader from Hottoys. I think the helmet looks great compared to what has already been sold by Hottoys. |

Yes, the leather look is convincing to me. You have the combination of smooth and "scrunchy" I think is realistic. |

Thanks. Started on the ANH as well. Added more folds down at the knees and it looks much more realistic, in my opinion, so I'm thinking whether I should resculpt that area on the ESB as well. Haven't added the wrinkles or ribs yet. Just trying to get the basic pants and folds look right first.

As for moulding material, if you've considered Craylola Model Magic, don't bother. It's not very good. Soft and spongy, easy to work with, but while it says it air dries in 72 hours, it doesn't. It remains pliable will a consistency of crumbly Play-Doh.

Just to show you a before and after. It may not be too visible in the pictures, but it certainly is in real life. The first image shows the ribs and wrinkles added to the sculpt. Notice how sharp and puffy things look.  And then I went over everything with my sculpting tool to soften everything.  Usually I would only show the latter image, as there's really no point in showing steps like that in detail. It was simply to show how things progress from the initial form details to integrating them into the sculpt more and making everything look more natural. |

It's a vinyl kit of Bela Lugosi's Dracula from the company Horizon. I was trying to fix it up by adding the top hat and a new cape, but realized that his proportions or simply too way off for me to be able to fix it the way I want. His torso is simply too small, so if I want to fix him I'd have to sculpt a whole new torso and I'm not really sure I want to do that. |

Have had to rework all the folds on the legs because I hadn't taken the shins into account when sculpting all that. I'm fairly pleased with how the folds have turned out on the ANH legs, but having to clean up my apartment I won't be able to work on the ESB or the sewn lines until the weekend. It's a bit of a set-back, but I want this to look great, not mediocre.
