Seeing as we have the might of Brian Muir on board (well..let's hope he stays - given certain instances! :rolleyes )

Who thinks it is a good idea, or even realistic, to approach John Mollo to answer some questions his fans might have?

I've heard John is a very friendly / approachable guy.

Also, maybe John would be able to fill in blanks Brian can't answer and maybe could name other wardrobe / art department crew who contributed to
Vader on ANH?

Just an idea. But seeing as we are on a roll with the whole factual documentation, I know that if it was my work I would want the facts out
there and not hearsay / conjecture.

I think that any kind of interview and communication would be wonderful. I think that for those of us desirous specifically of the physical realization of Vader from concept to clay, the knowledge shared by Brian is incomparable. However, John can provide us with invaluable insight as to how we went from the McQuarrie design (the one we refer to as the Concept Vader) to the final sketches that Brian ultimately used and had to interpret into 3D.

If you do consider the final sketch and it's bird's eyeview perspective, the proportions are far from the heroic ANH we've all come to love. The McQuarrie painting of Vader vs. Anakin Starkiller has some of it but is yet a different design. I digress, but I'm still in awe of the inspiration and creativity that took that two dimensional approximate illustration and fleshed out something of such unique and powerful proportions.

If John Mollo had involvement in the physical prop side, I'd love to learn that too.

The more facts from the guys involved the better, imo.

Hi HAL9000,

If John Mollo could be contacted and participated it would be superb. Do you have contact details or know anybody who could contact him?

Having Brian Muir on the forum has been a great honour and enlightening to say the least. John Mollo would be another great coup for the forum.

If you could pull it off it would be great :)

Cheers Chris

I agree. It would be good to have John Mollo here, another nice guy to meet in person like Muir.

John was also someone I met at CE and was wonderful to talk with. Both Brian and John were courteous and responsive and fascinating to listen to.
I could be wrong but didn't John Mollo do work on the cape and some other aspects of the Vader costume?

Oh now THAT would be interesting. Here we've been so focused on the helmet and mask (and sometimes armor) in our discussions we've almost completely neglected the soft parts.

Just to echo what everyone else has said, it would be nice to have John aboard also.

The more the merrier. In this type of community, you can never have too many cooks in the kitchen and we already have one Head Chef aboard. If JM is as genuinely nice as Brian is, then this would be another great asset to have for our discussions.

That's a good idea. I met him once and yes he's a very nice man.

Perhaps Brian could put in a good word for us?

We do also have Don Bies here, although he's not posted yet! (Hi Don if you're reading this!)

Just off the top of my head, two starting points might be if anyone has a
contact at lightsabre - they are based in uk and they did a great interview
with Mollo recently...

Also, wasn't Jez in contact with him?

That inspires other questions regarding how the breathing box and belt were designed, and who made them!

HAL9000, what a brilliant idea.
History and facts is what we all crave for.

We are lossing people that were in the original or contributed towards the making of the trilogy on a yearly basis!

I think like everyone else has stated, the more the merrier.

cheers
