This helmet on ebay popped up, and there has been some discuession on other boards as to who it is. The image name is GV2 so one person assumed it was a Gino. For the price I'm not so sure.

Can anyone answer this one for sure?

Does look like a Gino.

Im not sure how much more you are looking for.

The image name was the last thing I looked at. It just screams Gino when you look at it and the fact that I discovered the images were also named "GV2" was the icing on the cake.

It is a Gino, the trimming of the eyes is a dead give away. Looks like his smooth cap v 2. The photo has not been taken from the correct distance, making the face plate look over-sized.

Other than not being HDPE, I would say this is probably the most accurate replica Stormtrooper helmet out there. It's a bargain at $300, Gino sold his last helmets for $1,000.

Actually, my question would be why all the fuss about bumpy caps being the most accurate and yet offering a smooth cap while still promoting his line as "the most accurate ever..."

TE once told me that he observed both smooth and bumpy caps in the Archives.

Nice looking helmet though.

are the V2's painted HIPS? or HDPE? Looks almost like ABS in the pics.

Hey Crow, I believe Gino V2 stunt helmets are made of painted hips except the the hero version that only the frown, tears, trapz and earcaps are hand painted. Maybe somebody else who owned one of them can confirm this.

Yes you're absolutely right, I own one of those.

This is the smooth cap and back version of the stunt, on these ebay pics you can even see the yellow epoxy/resin Gino has brushed inside his helmets to prevent recasting, .

That's interesting Mac. Did he mention any theories on why the bumps ocurred?

Hey Joe,

I believe this is the answer to your question, I got this from Matt at whitearmor.net

The bumps are due to a failed mold OR overheating the molds and constant pulling. The bumps are actually inside the resin and are metal filler called 'shot'. The heat can make these rise and cause the bumps after repeated forming and not allowing the molds to cool down. Since not all helmets have the bumps, this is the most likely solution.

Tamping can also create this problem, but again, since not all the helmet have this problem scenario #1 seems to be the most likely cause.

Thanks A

I have been wondering baoput this for years! It makes sense as the bumps are in the same place on a lot of helmets and yet not on others at all.

Joe

Ps: Gino's ebay ID is High bidda, just for the record.

Wow, this is good information. If what TE says is in fact accurate, that means that the initial helmets were smooth capped, and the latter ones were bumpy due to overheating of the mold.

Then, in light of this information, all this propaganda we've been told that someone's helmet is more accurate than everyone else's because of bumpy caps accurately reproduced is just loony.

If one choses to reproduce bumps, that is fine. But it makes it no more superior or accurate than a smooth cap since both were screen-used.
