Post subject:  Reveal Vent Install on MR ROTS Lid

I ordered two sets of reveal vents and installed them on my two MR lids. This was very tedious to say the least. I worked about 8 hours a day for at least a week straight to get these things to fit right. Not every square on the MR is cut the same and I had to use my dremel like a surgical tool over and over to get each piece to fit properly. Once the fit was complete, I painted the louvers the proper color, installed them and shined up the lids with two coats of NXT Polish. Now I'm tempted to add the other reveal parts to complete the enitre look. I only wish the vents were functional but the padding inside the mask obstructs the holes.

Job well done! :thumbsup

But (if you don't mind me asking) why two of the same helmets?

That does look very nice. That's what I wanted to do as well, but the mounting system seems as though it might cause an obstacle for all the parts, haven't seen one up close though so I'm not sure.

He's actually Zaphod Beeblebrox and needs one for each head.

Maybe he wears them on his hands?

Seriously though. Beautiful job!

Awesome! Are those vents the same source as the ones used in the production? Looks so much better.....

One lid is for trooping and the other is for display. I just didn't feel I could pull off the ROTS Vader look with any other helmet.

And I agree that adding the other exterior components would definately affect the way the dome sits on the mask. Scratch that idea.

The vents are not exact replicas. The screen used vents have 11 louvers on them while mine only have 7 or 8. I'm sure the actual parts can be bought from somewhere but I thought I was getting accurate vents from the vendor I used. Nonetheless, I'm pleased with how they turned out.

Ok interesting, I guess the original pieces would have to be had somewhere in Australia...?

That's looking cool. Interesting how the vents are placed differently than the OT reveal, iirc.

You seem to wear the outfit well too... so that's a big plus! :thumbsup

You know, since you worked so hard to get the vents installed, AND its a trooping helmet, you could always modify the padding to that the holes for the vents are revealed.

Be a lot of work, but could be worth it.

I thought about that but I just couldn't bring myself to rip out the suede padding or cut holes in it. Despite the fact it is a trooping helmet, I still treat it like gold and would prefer to minimize any mods to it.

Very well done bro, I think the vents look great, not too much (and not over done) but a real point of difference, MR should have done this in the first place.

I agree. As soon as I saw the first public pics of the MR helmet, I immediately wondered why the vent holes were left unfilled. I'm sure many others felt the same way. I knew it was something I had to do when I bought them.

I assume MR thought most people would display the mask with the helmet on so they didn't want the additional expense/labor of supplying the vents if no one will see them...one good thing is that you can then see the vent depressions in their original shape and condition.
