Looking great crow...got a couplt TKs to paint myself. All of these recent threads have been very helpful. This may be a stupid question but what is the weber trim...and how does one find some?

I'm sure this has probably been asked and answered a hundred times...just call me slow. :lol

wannab (Doug) hooked me up with the Weber's info. Here is some more info on neck trim options that he sent me a few wks ago:

Neck trim info:

Seals Direct http://www.sealsdirect.co.uk/bbCMS/shop ... rtmentId=4
Folks are ordering SWR150 and SWR149 (bottom of page)

Webbers http://www.weberspump.com/acatalog/Rubber_Gaskets.html
Folks are ordering #RG102

I created a thread on MEPD about all three and posted comparison shots here...

I can now say that I have actually used a dental "gum stimulator"...to rub down pinstriping

ooookay.
All I have left are getting the frown mesh in, the neck trim on, and the correct aerators (plus all the internal stuff). But here she is.

next to my SDS. Notice the acrylic capped ABS is mirror gloss, plus a much warmer white:

Smile!
I sure wish the AP's came in acrylic capped ABS...my armor makes it look dull!

Terrific photographic account of the buildup. Great attention to detail.
So may I ask your impression of the AP (where is this from?) helmet next to the SDS? Sharpness? Shape? Size? I'm curious. What number is your SDS helmet? I wouldn't mind more comparison photos, but I know this is an AP buildup thread...

Thanks guys!

Oh AJGC--sorry I missed your post on the bottom of page 2! Yes I'm happy with the eyes as well!

Mo prob tvirus on the trim info...hope you find it helpful.

Sithlord- As for my impressions of the AP:
I'm satisfied. It is exactly as I thought it would be (I had seen one in person before I ordered it) with the exception of the gloss level and the shade of white, and even that doesn't bother me really. It's just one of those little things that I'd change if I could (maybe I'll beg and plead for AP to pull me one out of acrylic-capped LOL). I really like the proportions. One thing I will say, if it had not been for this forum and for the countless threads at the FISD on watching out for the pitfalls during assembly, it would have turned out to be a bad result. No doubt about it. I owe it to the Prop Den, you guys, and to the guys at the FISD for getting me a result I can be proud of (for a first timer) and that kept me from wasting a lot of money!
As for size/ sharpness/ etc the AP is very good. Of the options out there, it is not surprising that the TE/TE2's and the AP's have risen to the surface of the reasonably-priced, high quality products.
The AP is quite a bit smaller than my Battle Spec, believe it or not. There is JUST enough space to my head in sideways, grazing my nose and the back of the ol' noggin.

I will set up a separate thread for comparisons of the two...stay tuned. A number of ppl have asked for such a thread, and I'm eager to do so...

Hey Crow, you need to do a horizontal flip on the last pic you took in the mirror so it looks correct. Mirror shots really expose the true "wonkiness" of trooper lids don't they?
Nice job BTW.

a few more tweaks before I install the hard hat liner.

One thing I wanted to do was knock down the gloss level on the teeth, so I picked up some clear Semigloss enamel. Trick to it is to apply it quickly and with very few strokes, as it begins to emulsify the paint very quickly.

"put the paint down and PLAY!"

Teeth looked more accurate before. A trick to dull down gloss is a good set of fingerprints - don't rub or smear... just touch and away.

I just didnt like that they made the helmet look dull. I suppose I can always gloss em up again in a few minutes...I have a whole jar of paint left! They actually match the gloss level of the decals now, which I definitely wanted to do.

Well... that alone is all that matters... consistency. Screw "accurate", as it'll look stupid when it doesn't match the other stuff, imo. Never considered that aspect of it when I replied before, so I'd say keep it as it is now. Your choice, of course. :thumbsup
