Post subject:  WIP Batman 89 1/1 display bust.
I plan to make a few Batman 1/1 to display in my office and home theater.
While waiting for my accurate Returns parts (my favourite of all suits) , I decided to start with a 89 bust .

Here are some of my parts for this project:
M.Keaton head :

89 chest armor descended from an original screen used prop :

89 Urethane cowl :

I also got some real deal glove fins and 89 chest emblem (no pictures yet)
I have a few yards of real leather to make the cape (well only the half of it).
Still need to buy some super accurate 89 gloves.

So far I have added the lycra suit and partially attached the chest to the bodysuit and it's ready to be latexed (the bodysuit).

Update : I have applied the first coat of latex. (as always this will be a slow project for me)

I'm not an expert but for the first coat I mixed latex with water and black acrylic paint (satin) to get a better result.

I was under the impression that Michael Keaton has green eyes. I thought they were blue as well at first and painted one of my kits like that, but at closer inspection they don't really look blue at all. Also maybe tone down the sheen of the black around his eyes - should be matt black.

Just another thing - and don't know if I remember this correctly - but I'm pretty sure that his cape wasn't made out of leather. I will see if I can find the article or webpage where they mention what it was made of. But if you've already gotten the leather for the cape, then maybe this wouldn't matter!? Let me know.

I'll have to double check the eyes colour then, but I think I will be painting the head black to make it look more like a museum display.

As for the cape I think you're right, my plan was to latex the leather cape as well .
Is that what they did on the original?

Yes I'd be very interested in your article if you can find it.

According to the article in Amazing Figure Modeler #30 Keaton wore a Lycra spandex suit, which had been treated to have a rubberized surface (seems much like what you've done). The armor was foam latex pieces glued to the suit (again, much like you're doing and planning) - for shooting it was polished with silicone to give it a bit of a shine. Leather gloves and Nike shoes with a leather attachment sewn on. The cape was Venetian wool that was sprayed with rubber and smoothed out with rollers. Seems cast latex has to be sealed with talc powder or corn starch or it will bond to itself.

The article was written by Tony Krerowicz and he seems to have looked into what the real suit was made of and how it was made.

I can get the entire article scanned for you, unless you have the magazine yourself. Though, will have to wait until the next time I go visit my mother.

Hope this helps... I know it was just about the cape... but thought I might as well write down what I could glean about the real suit from that article.

No I don't have that magazine, might take a look on ebay but I think it would just be easier if you can scan it for me.

I'll have to find some venetian wool but I will be using the leather as a stand in until I find the correct stuff.

You're quite welcome. I just remembered reading that article as I'm about to paint my Billiken Batman kit, which the article is really about... but it had that cool info about the real suit as well to get the colors right.

I'll get it scanned as soon as I can. No point in buying the magazine for just a one page article, imo.

Sorry for the late reply, haven't been checking this section lately.

It's a Jc cowl.

The 89 display still needs a TON of work.
